John,

How do those dates look for you? Give me some ideas on a date, then I'll post as official with details and GET THIS GOING! I'm ready for a tire kicking session.

Had to take a detour yesterday, road closed, SE Washington, headed to Lewiston. I'll put a picture up later.

Hey, we made TDR! 4 guys listed with high HP plates!!! should have been 5, but oh well, missed it by 2. 2HP.

I spoke with the Boss and she said any weekend in March is fine by her.

I'll need a week lead time to pick up the Oysters.

John

Trip To Washington

Business trip to Spokane, Lewiston and Pasco WA last week, hit a bit of weather, closed road and high winds.

OK you guys, we have a date set, now shake it up, get some attendance, shine your rigs, put an extra hole in your belt, FOOD is on the schedule. We did a dyno, it worked but FOOD was not the big ticket, now FOOD is the ticket. We got fresh SC oysters John will take care of the how to and what not for the oysters. I'm getting the fresh sausage, this ain't grocery store stuff smoked at some processor and sealed in a pack, I buy it from the butcher local and then I smoke it over hickory and oak. I'll even cook some desert in a CARDBOARD BOX OVEN before your very eyes, might do a dutch oven cobbler or dump cake, heck, I can show you guys my 20" Lodge skillet, makes more pancakes than you could eat.

OK, I like to cook outside, let's have some fun.

Go sign up on the SCTDR Oyster Roast thread.

Hey guys, as much as I hate to, I am going to miss this one. :{ I got laid off before Christmas and finally got another job. Right now I am in the process of moving to North Dakota. Sounds like it is going to be a good time that you all got planned.

Good Luck

Mike,

Sorry to hear about the layoff, but same time congrats on the new job.

ND should be full of CTD's, common as flies on a fresh cowpatty!

Good Luck.

We have some RSVP's for the Oyster Roast Cookout.

Thanks Gary. I have to admit though, that I am going to miss some really good members that I have met, especially John Glasgow. I am also going to do a seperate post on this, but he is a hell of a guy and he will do whatever he can to help a guy out. He is top notch and in my opinion, a hell of an asset to this site and the chapter.

Mike

Mike,

I met John at the Dyno Daze and visited his shop twice when I happened to be in the Low Country, he took time to chat and show me his shop, nice guy, I second that but he does favor a slushbox over a hand shaker, oh well can't win em all, now we just need to see how well he cooks Oysters!

Thats what these get togethers are about too, getting to know each other and have fun with the CTD. Still have room at the table for more at the Spring Cookout.

Hope John's hat still fits.

Sorry to hear about the job neighbor. I’ll carry the “stack” torch in your honor after you’re gone. Taking the trash just won’t be the same. Good Luck out there.

SCTDR Events "2" Trucks "0"

Well, we have had 2 events, Dyno Daze and Oyster Roast and both events can sorta claim trucks as victims. John G. valve seats as I understand it really showed up as bad after an 800HP run and then the Oyster Roast, oh those tasty hand selects! Gregg's truck puked a trans on the way home! Not Good. John pulled his engine and had it reworked, came back stronger than before, it helps when the valves and seats play nice nice instead of floppin around, and it's tough I hear to back a truck all the way home in R down an interstate.

Gregg, ain't heard whats up with your truck? hows it going?

If anybody wants to suggest a get together event idea for the summer, please post your suggestion and we'll see what happens. Might have to truck pool to get there and show pictures of what is in the garage, but we can try.

I'll keep working on this falls major event, details as available.

FYI, the '07 was "missing" on cold starts, #1 was actually cold at the manifold, but ran fine under cruising speeds. Dealer looked at it and replaced the heater grid solenoid and no more missing #1 when cold, strange but thats the story, I'll drive it more on monday.

Thanks again Gary,

It left on a rollback sometime this week to go back to TN. The guys in the shop said whatever it is, it’s covered. I'm my own warranty shop till it comes to Bill's transmission. Just think when I get it back she will still be knockin LOL. Now that I have the Honda I can do several things without rushing to get it back on the road.

I say we make a trip to John’s Shop and bring some High Country food to him, then float around the Battery.

4 Cylinder Go-cart

Gregg,

Lucky you, warranty on a transmission, that's nice. I spent some time last weeks with some real drivetrain pros last week and most of them agreed on one thing, its easier to work on an auto than a handshaker. Maybe we are not seeing as many manuals and more autos that come apart with a set of snap ring pliers rather than 20+ ton presses. Kinda embarrisin to be in that Go-cart, so close to the ground and all, hopefully no one will recognize you!

Taking the High Country to to the Low Country, turn about and pay backs are fair enough with me.

What say you about Gregg's idea SCTDR? Check your calendars, make menu suggestions.

Also, at the bottom of the reply box is a subscribe option, set yourself up to get an e-mail for SCTDR postings so we can stay current.

We had a bit of a storm last night, thunderboomers, hail the size of flattened golf balls, LOTS of warnings, but looks like we faired OK, moved Jakes truck close to the house, used it as a shelter for the 12V.

That's a V6 VTEC Go-Cart, Thank you! You know how we like 6 cylinders. LOL Well at least it doesn't sound like a weed-eater.

Yeah, but it ain't 6 in a row, you gots a VEE of some kind going on under the hood! Not to mention SPARKPLUGS!

Put just over $100 in the company truck this AM, do you hear a large negative pressure sound emanating from my C-Card?

Filling up is goofy, I drove to Houston last week, one truckstop allowed only $48 before it required reauthorization, one allowed $75 and today in Hartsville, ran all the way to $100 plus on one approval. Doesn't make sense all were pre-authorized c-card purchases.

Check your calendars, lets see about the next reason to eat and BS.

Happy Monday.

Group Buy Synthetic Diesel Fuel?

Came across this on the Jeep CRD forums and over on tdiclub. Company down in TX, High Performance Fuels and Additives , that sels high octane race gas and biodiesel is also selling GTL synthetic diesel fuel by 5, 15 and 55 gallon drums.

Trade name for the stuff is GEM Topaz Syndiesel. If you do a Google search on the trade name, you'll come across a geocities website that has the MSDS sheets for the fuel.

Basic specs are 63 cetane, energy content 20300 btu/lb (claimed 20% more than pump diesel), pour and cloud point of minus 60 F below zero. Storage/shelf life of 10 years.

Price for a single 55 gallon drum is $225 - works out to $4. 09/gallon. For 2 to 12 drums, price drops to $207 per drum.

Sticking point is shipping price. UPS shipping for a 4 drum pallet to a business location with a dock and forklift is $420.

One gent that lives in TX went to their location with his Duramax and utility trailer, picked up 8 drums and a 15 gallon container. He poured the 15 gallon container in his fuel tank, loaded the 8 drums in his trailer, and headed home. On the way down, running with an empty trailer on regular #2 diesel, he reported 16. 5 MPG. On the return trip, with over 3000 lbs in the trailer and burning syndiesel, he reported his fuel mileage went up to 17. 2 MPG.

Another gent on tdiclub from SC is asking if anyone in the area bordered by Greenville/Columbia/Charlotte/Florence is interested in going in on a group buy to split up shipping costs, as he has his own bobcat to unload the drums with.

Splash blending in a couple gallons per fillup might be enough to spice up regular pump diesel to get the bump in MPG without having to run it straight and stretch out a 55 gallon drum for quite a while.

Any interest in a group buy on this stuff? And also, anyone know of an alternative shipping method (ie, by train to the nearest freight terminal) that could reduce shipping costs that we could negotiate in with these people?

Mitchell,

It sure hurts at the pump right now, but for various reasons, I'm personally not interested in this proposition, drum storage is one of them, and somehow qualifying all of these alternate fuels still needs to settle down a bit. Maybe someday, but not right now.

Gregg,

Get your truck fixed or you still Honda commuting?

Hows everybody doing? Kinda quiet out there.
