Hey Greg,

I had a couple bent valves, a bunch of burnt valves and a piston that looked like it had been shot with double oo buckshot.

I Pulled the motor and installed new pistons, rods and rings, a complete valve job with new valves and all the right valve seats this time . Balanced the rotating assembly and stuffed it back in the truck. Its never run better and loves Nitrous:-laf.

Yeah, that's what I thought you told me when I was stuffing my face with shrimp and oysters. I hate to put the old girl down again after not having it for two months. Here we go again. Thanks Buddy!

Well, I must be doing something right, or else as my grandfather used to say I'm holding my mouth like I'm going to kiss a mule's backside - the old '87 MB diesel is kicking up into the 40 to 45 mpg range this past week. Just a 1/4 tank used for 200 miles back and forth to work this past week, and that's a 18 gallon tank.

Grumble grumble etc etc.

OK now that I stopped griping for this monday, Mitch you and your nearly antique oil burner getting 40+ MPG says alot for what the basic engines are capable of and in '87 mileage was nice but I don't remember it being like it is today, good for you. Now will it take a 5" stainless steel exhaust?

Just an update, but I wish I had some real stuff to put out for our event for this fall. I am still trying to put together a special event, communications continue and I think today might be a good day for a follow up e-mail. If this un-announced event falls through, we go to plan B, Dunbar at an undetermined date and place. Maybe this time I'll get the 400HP plate. That's a bold statement, I know, missed it by 2. 2HP!!!!!!!!!!

Jake's '97 3500 runs great, classic rattle, sealed up several intake leaks one we could hear, several we had to see with soap bubbles after we pressurized the intake system.

Had some really good for this early in the season silver corn last night, now if you guys haven't tried grilling corn in the husk on an open fire, we'll that's almost as good as John's oyster roast.

What's going on guys?

Dyno Day in Boone

Taking the head off this week to see what is going on and dropping in a set of new heavy duty pushrods from Olee. If things are easy to fix I'm going to Boone NC for a Dyno Day at Mystery Hill off 321 that Lucas Underwood setup. If not I’ll still ride the scooter up there to have some fun in 20* cooler weather.

Silver Queen on the grill is by far the best. Get things together Gary and let us know what we can do to help.

What’s new people? How’s it going Gary?

I still don’t know why the truck is knocking and smoking so much, but I haven’t removed the head yet to find out. New push rods and my old 275s didn’t change anything. Man what a difference going from Mach 6s to 275s make. Feels like I’m towing a house lol.

From the 9 – 10 dyno runs I made in Boone I’m right at 700 Hp (one run said 702 but it was a hokey run).

God bless

Gregg,

Good to hear from you, sorry the truck is mis-behaving a bit. You gonna do the work yourself? I haven't been in on a head pulling party yet. 700HP, that's two engines worth under one hood, not bad, congrats.

Been busy enough, home and work, that's a good thing.

I just had a chat with my boss, I'm going to check the football schedule for an October Dyno Run and twist his arm a bit, got an idea or two, I'm getting on it.

It's Official, Nov. 15th 2008

SCTDR,

It has been a bit quiet lately, I think we have all been bit bummed out with the cost of #2, so lets focus on having fun again. Here goes the basics, more details TBA as we put this together.

South East Diesel Jamboree

Who: Perfection Clutch + K&L Chrome + TDR Members + Diesel Fans + 18 Wheelers!

When: November 15th, 2008

Where: K&L Chrome, Florence SC, I-95 at exit 169.

What: Dyno by Dunbar (pick ups only), Show and Shine several classes, other activities and of course Food.

DETAILS TO BE WORKED OUT, THIS IS THE ROUGH OUTLINE!

Mark your calendars, clean the change out of the couch to pay for the #2, get your honeydo list carved down! It will be cooler than last year, that's for sure.

Kelvin and April own K&L Chrome. K&L has been customizing big rigs for years based here in Florence SC and they have signed with the CMT network, and Kelvin is, well, in charge of the Trick My Truck show on CMT. Kelvin is in the middle with the black hat. This was from this spring's Darlington Car Hauler Parade, part of the festivities for the NASCAR Race, Kelvin brought some of the TMT team in for the parade.

Last year was a great start and teaming up with K&L will only add more enthusiasts and THE BIG RIGS for us to admire, K&L makes em shine!

Hey Gary,

This sounds great. Think we might get a few new members if you make a new thread talking about this? When the details get a little more solid that is.

Gary and Gang,

Hope all is doing well on the east side and I hope all of you had a save and Merry Christmas.

Anthony

Anthony,

Thanks for the shout out, nice to hear from you. Hope all's well in the Volunteer State. Santa bring you any Cummins goodies?

I got a new toy, it's in other vehicles, didn't cost a whole lot and it is due to get a handshaker as soon as I get all of the parts lined up.

To all SC and Mid-TN and TDR members, best wishes to you and the family, Happy New Year.

Anthony,

Thanks for asking, it's on my project list. I have one new possible added twist to add to the event, but cannot confirm yet.

Family Portrait

Hi guys, I brought home another Dodge. I was looking for a project vehicle and this one found me. It is a 77 M880 3/4T 318CID, 727AT. The dash wiring was a big project to fix and the engine so far is doing really well after a fuel pump (that got it going) filter, carb kit, intake manifold gaskets and the big one was a new timing chain, now it's starting to run right. I know it has spark plugs and an A/T. The A/T's days are numbered, I have a 435 4 speed and almost all parts to rip out the A/T and drop in a handshaker. One of my buddies says he has seen these converted to compression ignition, now that would be a project. For now, it's going to get fixed and made road worthy with a complete conversion to a 3 pedal 4 speed handshaker. It feels really at home on the little bit of non paved driving I have put it on that NP203 full time 4X4 with locking center diff has hunting season written all over it. The '97 is running great, that classic rattle is hard to ignore and easy to appreciate.

A little help, please. Hello I'm visiting from CT (NETDP, of Coffee nite fame) and the truck threw a code on the way here. It's the p1693 code, after a slight stumble, happened twice. Does anyone in the Manning SC Area have a code reader or a Smarty so I can read the ECU? Thanks, Moose
