I am about to purchase an southbend clutch fe do yall recommend goin with the flywheel and upgraded hydralics that southbend offers??

Depends on if you have a 5 speed. If you have a 5 speed you have to if you go with an FE. I would recommend the flywheel even if you have a 6 speed. It comes with a heavy duty pilot bearing, and is already surfaced. The FE is hard on flywheels, but will hold the HP. You will have $40-50 resurfacing your old flywheel anyway. Then to buy the updated pilot bearing is about $10, plus getting your machine shop to machine the flywheel to put it in.

Absolutely get the flywheel. The pilot bearing alone makes getting into 1st, 2nd or reverse a pleasure compared to the stock flywheel. My truck slips into any gear now very easily compared to the stock setup.

Also get the hydraulics. Cheap insurance, plus you can adjust the pedal to where you like it.

You guys probably haven't noticed this is the 3rd generation forum, and the guy's got a 6 speed...

I jusr had the South bend FE installed in my truck, and the flywheel was machined prior to the install. The clutch chatters when starting out unless you rev the engine, then it is much smoother. Backing up is HORRIBLE!! I liked the OEM much better as far as smoothness.

Take it easy on it for a while Wayne, and it will probably settle in just fine. My LUK Cerametallic was like that to a degree early on, but keeps getting better even after the time and miles already on it - the chatter while backing, especially with a load, is harder to clear up, and aggravated by looseness in the drivetrain as things start to get worn and loose...

It's just part of the price we pay for a more aggressive clutch - and if slippage under load is a thing of the past, I figure it was a GOOD trade... ;) :-laf

Exactly why I went with the OFE.

Once your clutch is broken in a bit, give it a good beating. It will smooth out a bit.

It does take a while to re-learn how to drive to avoid the grabby part of the engagement.

the FE is the most aggressive clutch in the single disc market. it will always be grabby compared to the stocker. if it was to slip you would burn it up. don't ask me why i know this. if you are going for more power give it a while, cause this new sprung DD will be the one we all want.

first of all i dont know how to put my sig on so sorry for that and this sprung dd is it gonna be 2 grand for it i am really not into paying that much for a clutch also last but least i got a tst powermax cr r 49 plan on maybe modded cp3 100hp injectors and bigger turbo alone with water meth injections will the fe hold up to that hp are should i reconsider waiting for this SPRUNG DD??

and thanks for all yalls input

You will be pushing the FE. If your not speed shifting it and make sure it is engaged before pouring the power on it would probably hold, but if your gonna drive the snot out of it, you will probably end up trashing it. I think MSRP on the new DD is $1795.
