I would have a #4 and a wrench to fit it in the glove box, #5289447. The rest of them seem to be OK.

You could also carry a test cap to cap the rail off if a different one breaks. Miller Tool number 9011. Readily available.

We replace about one a month on our school buses. We have had to replace others but the #4's are easily 10:1 over the others. I'll try tomorrow to see if we've had to do any more than once. Maybe the new lines have solved the issue???

Well, I overestimated our usage on the #4 lines. We have 45 buses with the 5.9 CR. Looks like we replaced (5) in the past 12 months, (14) total. Two of them have had to be replaced more than once, but they were not replaced with the same part number, both were the next number in the supersession. We have never replaced the latest number, 5289447.

We have also replaced:
• (3) Number 1’s
• (1) Number 2
• (1) Number 5

I will also add, the #4 is commonly mistaken as #5 because of its location on the rail. They miss #6 on the end and see it’s the next to the last one on the top, therefore it MUST be #5.

I have the newest version of the Number 4 line in the storage box behind the seats. Figure if it's there then I'll never need it...

I had 2 failures of the original in less than a year. I replaced the clamp bolt in the second one with a longer bolt and added a nylock nut and have not had a problem sense (5 years now). The design of the latest model makes me believe it should last which matches Scott's experience. Bottom line is if you don't have newest style you should carry a spare or at minimum add tightening the clamp to routine maintenance.

Thats what i thought, they improved it to solve the problem.
......but i have a #4 and a cap-off in my parts box already too.

My early-production '03 truck still has all the original lines on it. I find that kind of interesting in light of what others have experienced...

I carry all 6 in the tool box. They were cheap when bought a few years back, and it makes me feel good to know they are there . lol

What is your normal cruise rpm? I've always thought mine where caused by a combination of 2100-2300 extended cruising while running Edge EZ on 2.
