Has anybody got a lead other than the dealer to replace the spare tire winch? I called the dealer and they want $99 here. All that is wrong is the cable got tweaked so it won't feed correctly, therefore causing a jamup in the winch. I may embark upon replacing the cable if no one has any other leads. I realize that $99 is not a fortune, but I just hate to give that money away for a $10 part!! I would even take one off a wrecker if need be, but I can't find one with that new of a truck in my area. According to the dealer, 2002-2005 are the same. Any help would be appreciated.

Well 65 views and no responses. I guess thats a ggod sign, maybe nobody else has broke one, so maybe this won't happen again. I bought one at a junkyard today for $40.

I keep my spare in the bed. MUCH easier to get to if I get a flat. At some point I'll probably remove the stock winch arrangement so I can stick an air tank up there (if Kilby ever finishes the kit for 3rd gens).

I do the tire in the bed thing in my work truck, but need the space in this one. I got the replacement and put it in today. It is amazing how cheaply made they are. I took the guts apart from the old one. So I also put a backup chain with a lock on it.

describe the new/broken one... does it look like the 2001 model ?? you said earlier they were different ?????

reason I ask is I have a spare one off my wrecked rig and am willing to pass it on to someone, but want to make sure it will fit . . I just saw this thread sorry
