I have a very annoying, but intermittent squeak in what sounds like the dash on the drivers side. Any common things I should look for? Did I read about a TSB someplace on this? It seems to only do it on rougher surfaces or going over bumps. Any pointers appreciated.

EDIT: I just looked at the TSB's and found one that might apply, although it is for an earlier year, TSB 23-08-99 Instrument Panel "Creak". Has anybody had this done? It looks pretty involved. I have noticed that the A Pillar cover appears to be rubbing against the dash on the drivers side, I see white residue at the point of contact. I also noticed that there seems to be more space between the pillar and the dash on the passenger side. Almost like the dash is shoved too far to the left. I have thought of just spraying the area of contact on the left side with a silicon lube.

I was getting ready to say silicone lube before I got to your last line. Others have reported noise coming from the aluminum VIN tag on the dash, but I think it's more of a rattle than a squeak.

Shelby, In your other post I noticed you are experiencing some heater motor problems. Can these two be related by dash mis-alignment/installation?

Silicone spray is a good temperary fix and will probably quiet things down, for a while. My experience with silicone is that you'll have to continually apply it to the surfaces for it will rub and wear off quickly, especially when the contact surfaces are causing "dust" already. Better to make the required adjustment wouldn't you think? Dave

Dave, I suppose the two could be related, never thought of that. I have both on the repair order for next Saturday. It has been my experience with dealers that squeaks, especially intermittent ones always come back "could not duplicate", so I am trying to be proactive. I doubt they will fix it, but stranger things have happened. I agree on the silicone spray, usually you need to reapply often. I definitely have rubbing going on between the A-Pillar cover and the dash on the left side. I agree an adjustment would be best.

I've got a squeak in my dash sometimes too, but mine is on the passenger side. At times it's perfectly fine and other times you'll hear it, not sure what it is.

I have noticed one thing DC has been doing in the current trucks..... If you pull your dash bezel off, way easy, you might noticed some red material in the female reciever for the clip, in fact it even looks like some kind of female material. . IAC, I suppose this is here to prevent squeaks, I also have a dash squeak, but only when really cold... annoying as #@!$^%%, but I refuse to let DC tear apart MY dash... .

I have a squeak on the driver's side that just started. It mainly occurs when making a right-hand turn. I first thought it was a loose shock nut, I checked & it wasn't. Don't know what it is, but when it bugs me enough I will look harder or take it in before the warranty runs out.

I had a rattle right side. Took it to the dealer and they pulled the dash out, had it 4 days, squirted some kind of uncured rubber sealant all under the dash. Could not drive with windows up for almost 2 mos and still got head achs from the smell. Yep, you guessed it. Got it back with the rattle and a new squeek. I found the rattle the next day while changing oil ( fender liner and cab weld seam, loose big plastic rivit ). Dealer said they would have to pull dash again for the squeek. The squeek lasted about as long as the stink but finnaly the 2 or more pieces of plastic that were chirping clearanced them selves ( or the crickets died ) and no more squeek. That was last July.

i also have an annoying intermitent "snap" sound i think is coming from the A Piller cover. It will pop at idle or traveling over smooth roads. i've pulled the A Piller and opened the metal tabs to create tighter fit but it still snaps. i'm thinking about putting some kind of material between the cover and A Piller.

I have an occasional squeak and creak in the dash, but it only occurs when it's cold out and generally disappears once the heater/defroster has warmed the plastic enough for it to expand into its mounts. In summer, I never hear it.

Usually the squeak on the drivers side is caused by the upper stearing universal on the engine side of the firewall. That's for the one's with the squeak during the turn. It's usually more noticeable on curves and mine did it when going to the right. It's transmitted back up the stearing column so it can sound like its in the dash. I give mine a little WD40 at every oil change and wipe off the excees and the squeak has disappeared.
