My 2007.5 still kicking

Bolt in trailer tire.

There is a new Goodyear ST tire available that is made in the USA! It's the Endurance brand and comes in popular 14, 15, and 16" sizes. It even comes in a 15" E rated tire. All the Endurance tires are rated for highway speeds. There is a new 16" size rated for 4080#.

I'm looking forward to hearing how well these 'Made in USA' tires hold up.

We are a Goodyear dealer but I had not heard about this yet. I'll talk to the tire dept tomorrow and see what they say...

It's true, they are now offering the "E" rated 15" tire. Very new, our distribution center doesn't even have them on hand so far...

No one here even knew about it yet....I got to be first.....:D:D

I think I'm going to. I have (4) Goodyear Marathons (bought them when they were briefly made in the USA) on the trailer now. They look perfect but are about 8 years old so they need to come off before summer travels.

Will be towing it to DC and back next month and possibly to PEI in July in addition to the normal trips that it gets. I have four 16" Michelin Load Range "E" take offs waiting for me out in the tire department and I was just shopping up 6 on 5/12 16" rims last week but I'd rather stick with the 15" if the Goodyear is a quality Load Range "E"........

Decisions, Decisions.......

Mike.

The Airstream community has struggled with this ST dilemma for a long time, this brand that brand, PSI, TMPS every facet your could dream up. Many have stuck by the ST's but MANY have seen what Airstream has offered as an option on new trailers and even spec'd by AS on some models and offered as a service part with wheels ready to go is converting the OE 15" ST to a 16" Michelin LT.

I put them on my almost 10,000 lb 30' AS but sourced locally, not AS $$$.

Im opposite of you, I bought 5 16" 6 lug wheels for our camper at a swap meet last month. They had what I would call a scratch and dent section, brand new equipment that was lightly damaged for whatever reason. The rims appear to have been poorly packed for transit and had a couple of nicks in the paint around the beads on 3 of the wheels. I paid $125 for all 5 and am on the hunt for tires.

I was shopping E Trailer just to get some cost ideas, 6 on 5 1/2 circle, 16", 6 3/4" wide were I believe $73.00 each. There were some 6" wide for less money but I think the Michelins saved for me need the wider rims.

I worry about diameter differences, I guess I need to jump the snowbank and do some measuring......it just has a standard equalizer spread so not a lot of room for much in the way of larger diameter tires.....

I plan on running 225/75/16, an inch taller than the OEM size. I did some solid measuring at the end of the season before I put the camper in storage and it won't be an issue on mine. 5200 lb axles.

Plus the extra height will help level the camper off that much more as it sits just a tad nose high when hitched.

I sold the 15" rims and Marathon tires that came on my new Northwood trailer as soon as I got it home. Bought 6 lug 16X6 wheels and then installed the "not quite good enough, but some tread" tires from my duelly. My tires are 215/85 Michelin Defenders. Now when I travel I have 12 tires all the same size. The rims don't swap obviously, but having essentially four spares (counting the training wheels) means I never have to worry about finding a tire if I run over some road debris.

I was looking for new tires for my 5er last summer. It has 15" wheels. I wanted E rated tires, which are hard to find for a 15" wheel. I discovered that if there is room for a bigger tire, you can go to a 225 size tire and get an E rated ST tire in most brands. Hope this helps someone out there.

225/75/16 is adequate if your sticking with an ST tire, but if looking to go to an LT tire it looks like a 245/75/16 will be mandatory. At least that's what I've found based on the tires I've been looking at. This is for a camper with 5200 lb axles.

Well after a trip out to the used tire area where my 16" take off Michelins are SUPPOSED to be I have returned empty handed....if they can't be located Monday I will order (4) of the new 15" "E" rated Goodyears as long as I can get them in two weeks.

I'll be a guinea pig for those things......

Many years ago we had a 29' Sprinter 5er with 15s. I purchased 16" white spoke wheels and added 235x16 tires. They worked great for several months till we traded. Surprisingly they did not rub.

My 5'er has 16's on it. We made one trip (home from dealer) with the Chinese MayPops and I went out to the local Schwab and put Toyo HD LT tires on it.
They have around 6k on them. I am very happy with them. My son is usually behind me when we are traveling and he says from his point of view the coach tracks well. I agree, from my POV.
I will be interested in seeing how these tires shake out, and wish everyone good luck. The previous generation Marathons cost me a lot of $, wiped out a fender extension on my box trailer and took out a fender on the boat trailer. It'll be a few years before I would even consider a Goodyear ST again.

I've got a set of the Marathon 15" Load Range "E" tires coming this afternoon. Will take a look, post a few pictures, etc....Still undecided.

The beauty of working at a place where tires are sold, I can send them back if I don't like them.....:D

They are here. Walked all the way out there and left my phone on the desk....

I'll get pictures later today.....They are stamped "Made In USA" and "Load Range E".....

Very interesting, and good news.

I ran Marathons on two different trailers and never had any issues with them in therms of ST issues. I had 3 punctures on dirt roads, which is the primary reason I went LT. ST's just don't seem to have the puncture resistance that LT's do.

225/75/16 is adequate if your sticking with an ST tire, but if looking to go to an LT tire it looks like a 245/75/16 will be mandatory. At least that's what I've found based on the tires I've been looking at. This is for a camper with 5200 lb axles.

I run 225/75R16's on my 5200 lb axles and the tires are rated for more than the axles. There isn't a need to go with 245/75R16.

My 225/75R16 Duravis R500HD's are rated for 2679 lbs @ 80 psi, or 5358 lbs per axle.

All of the LRE 225/75R16's I have seen are at least 2679 lbs.
