I seen lots and lots of stacks at Muncie. Enough so that I had to add them. I also notice several trucks running stacks through their tonneau covers. This is what I did.

I am just wonder if any of you with this setup have pulled or worked your truck hard enough to create enough heat to have any cover problems.

I don't think running empty will generate enough heat to cause a problem. I certianlly have not seen any.

But when running 1000+ egts for 100s of miles might be a different story.

Thanks for any advise!

I know Rob Thomas had enough heat from his stacks that it kind of melted the front of the plastic bedliner on his truck. If it were me and I wanted to run em through a toneau I'd make the stacks double walled. Have an outer tube that has at least an inch of air space between it and the actual stack that way that tube would stay cold. JMHO

Steve, I don't think I'm a perfect example to use here, I had a "special" circumstance upon melt down. Long story short, I had way to big of an injector installed while towing my trailer to Muncie, and unlike the stack kits I sell, mine are within 1/2" of the front of the duraliner. When I left my house the ambiant temp was 52*, when I got within striking distance of Muncie, the temps climbed 25 degrees, that, the injectors, and the trailer, equaled EGT's of 1200* for quite some time before the sweet smell of duraliner took over. :D The toneau cover was installed at the time, and it was fine, with 1/4" clearence around the stacks. No duramelting since. :)

Thanks....

Actullly Rob was alot of help in getting ideas to build mine. I did the double wall (4" exaust with a 5" stack over top).

I see no problems running empty, just curious with he pulling crowd. Sooner or later I will find out myself and report back.

Drop a PM to Oasis-3 and chat with him about the stacks-bed cover deal. Cliff tows his camper with the Harley in the bed for long periods of time to shows and he will be able to anser your questions. His truck, that I have seen has shown no ill effects of the questions you ask. Be patient for a snwer as he is hauling cars for a living now and only gets to his computer a little during the week. If he doesn't answer drop me a note and I'll call via the bat phone and let him know about your question. hope this helps... Andy
