Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 AFE

What is the difference between the stage 1 & stage 2 AFE intakes? TIA Scott

The Stage I is a new box and filter, the Stage II is a new bigger box, bigger filter with a 6 inch inlet, the mandrel molded intake tube to the turbo and a cover if you like to keep the turbo noise down, or you do not have to use it if you like the whistle etc. The Stage II is by far the best, but of course it costs more. Whatever one you decide on be sure to get the Pro Guard 7 filter, stops the dirt the 4 layer gauze filters lets thru but flows the air. Call us if you have any questions etc.

The difference is god awful turbo whine. I started with the stage 2 and it drove me nuts... What Mark says is true, if you like turbo whine and I mean alot of it, you will like the stage 2. I have a used one I will sell to you at half the cost of a new one... The stage 2 left a ringing in my ears after a few hours of driving. Now, I do have a Edge turbo that is larger than stock and that may be why mine was so loud.

I will say the stage 2 does about 50 to 100 degrees better with EGT.



I now have the stage 1 with pro guard 7 and am loving life!

No. Been there, done that. See this thread, post #5 where I explain the reason for that.

And what Billua said. It is really loud and will be louder with a bigger, louder turbo. That part I guess depends on what you like, though.

JVolpe - I have a second truck that I need to make breathe better, how soon are you going to get your twins? I be glad to purchase the Stage 1 & Torque Tube from you.



Well, it looks like the 2 guys before me did not take Billua up on his offer. So now I have a AFe Stage 2 kit on it way to me! (Thanks Billua!). Got a chance to talk with Billua on the phone today, real nice guy. Glad we have the chance to help each other out with parts/money swap.

AVNote the answer is Yes, No and Maybe. Depends on dealer service department and what might happen. A grenaded turbo would probably be denied. If STAR is involved probably.

The Stage II is by far the best

I have yet to see any actual data that proves that. I've been told by an AFE dealer that the old stage 1 with TT flows better than the new stage 2, in spite of the tricky new "high-velocity-necked-down-larger-filter" design. I also haven't heard of anyone upgrading from a stage 1 to stage 2 and realizing any EGT benefits.

If you're baseing that on flow yes it will be, if you want low level whistle and such no it won't be.

I'm not convinced. In that post he didn't say to what he was comparing... 100deg vs. stock? 100deg vs. Stage1 w/tt? Also was the Stage 2 with PG7? Sounds like it may have been with the regular AFE filter which obviously flows more. Just because someone says something once doesn't mean I take it as fact, nor does it mean I'm calling anyone a liar. . just means there's a lot of variables unanswered for.

k&N ? afe 1 or 2 ? theres a guy at a local shop that wants to sell me a cool air unit thing, cant remember name of place, something with green in it.

or is there something better?



are there any sound changes from changing ?



im lost, all i know is i want my truck to breath better
