Attention: TDR Forum Junkies Well to Keeno, and to all who have followed or remember my starter woes aways back. Finally bought some brushes for the starter that was in the 89, but now is in my 91. The old brushes were less than half the size of new brushes. Contacts and plunger were in good shape, so I reused them. Bought fell over when the shop said $27 for 4 brushes. Thats no labor, just out the door. The brushes were the only problem in it, works great now.
Anyways, got the starter back in, cleaned injector bores and reinstalled stock injectors, new o-rings, copper washers. Bled the system, after I got it running it just didnt sound right. Bled the system again, still didnt sound right. Test drove it and relized what I was hearing was worn out stock injectors vs what I have been driving in my 89 with new POD inj's. The 91 had the same power that I remembered, nothing compared to the 89. World of a difference in idle smoothness, and 'purring' quality. Plus I'm used to hearing 5" stacks, and the stock 3" straight, no muffler kinda cackled instead of roared. Didnt have anyone check pop pressures or clean these injectors. Seemed to work good before I removed them. Soaked them in Diesel fuel add/clean for the weekend just for the heck of it, didnt do much except clean the oil off them.
Anyways, got the 91 back on the road, I'll be watching for HG symptoms as time goes on. Not sure if I want to get pods for this truck or not, being an auto, dont wanna smoke it. Gonna have to do something, its a pig compared to my 89.
I guess my point is, if your hammering on your starter to get it to start, its probly your brushes!! Buy some and rebuild it yourself. All you need is a phillips and flat head screwdriver. Bill
