On my 02, I have this issue where when I go to start my truck ignition in the on position, wait, then turn over and nothing.. There's a click and no crank. Pop the hood, disconnect the cables to the batteries, reconnect them and the truck starts like a champ. Terminals are clean on the batteries.

This issue is random, happens a couple to few days in a row or it'll be a month or two before this happens.

Anyone else experience this or know of anything I can add to the battery terminals to ensure that they stay constantly clean?

Thanks for the input

This should probably be in the engine section of the forum.
I've seen something having to do with the fuel pump, but I'm a 12v guy.
Dont know much about those newfangled engines.:D

As stated above check the connections to the starter as well as all the ground connections. What you are describing is likely either an intermittent poor connection somewhere or the contacts going south in your starter. If it ends up being the starter I highly recommend using the above link and rebuilding your OEM starter (assuming it is the original unit). Reman box store parts are poor quality for the most part.

As others have mentioned, don't be tempted to replace the entire starter. I had the same symptoms at only 150k, the contacts were nearly worn through. Rebuilt the starter with Larry B's parts and got another 60k out of it before selling. Very easy to do, takes less than an hour.

Agree with above post. Larry B's kit is great easy to install and is heavy duty. Mine's been in 14 months and no problems.
