Hey guys. I'm having a problem with the truck. I noticed it last night. It seems that the truck is having a hard time starting sometimes. Today, when I tried to start it, I turned the key, waited for the pump to stop, waited for the start light to go out then cranked it over. It took like 6-7 seconds before the truck started. Turned over about 7 or 8 times. It's been doing that consistently all day. I'm thinking I might have a bad lift pump or something. Can you guys give me some guidance? Any help would be appreciated.
The lift pump sounds like it's running when I turn the key, but for some reason, it's taking longer than usual to start. This truck has ALWAYS started on the first try and first turnover. It's got about 84k miles on it now.
UPDATE: Well, seems to run fine once it's started. Before when I would bump the starter though, the pump would run for 10-20 seconds. It doesn't seem to be doing that anymore for some reason. At least I haven't been able to get it to do it today. BUT, like I said, when it runs it's fine. I just got back from the hospital and when I tried to start it in the hospital parking lot, it took about 7 or 8 turnovers before it would fire. Once fired though, all is good. The lift pump is the only thing I can think of other than maybe some bad fuel or something. I really have no idea. Might have to take it to the dealer this week. I don't even know where to look for the return lines, etc.
SECOND UPDATE: After letting the truck sit for a few minutes, I bumped the starter. The lift pump ran for 20 seconds or so and it seemed ok. I guess I'll never know without a FP gauge, but it seems normal. I don't get it. After I turned the truck off, it started up on the first turnover. It seems to be messing up after sitting for a while, even when the lift pump does its 20 second run. Hope I don't have a dying VP44
