I know about bad stock couplers. You should have seen the one on the truck 8 years ago. There was 4" of slop in the steering wheel. All coupler induced. It had 92k on it. It should have been replaced at 50k.

That harness went NA a few years back. I checked on one to replace what the P. I. 's (previous idiots) had done to mine. So I dug out the soldering gun and the cold shrink tape and went after it.

Yeah that monday evening i had to fix it with what i had available, new wire loom and quick connector, didn't have any heat shrink at the time, as i had to go back in to work that evening, I have heat shrink now and bouth 8ft more of 1/2 in. wire loom so im good to go now, i plan in finishing the wiring to that light this week, i have some liquid tape so it should completely seal the wire loom on the end and i shouldn't have any more problems with water or dirt building up in the wire loom.

I can't provide absolute proof of this opinion on my part but,..... I think the longer that coupler is left to deteriorate the sooner you'll have trouble with the stub shaft... that's the one that joins to the coupler.

When I went to DC about getting a new seal put in/on the stub shaft cause it was weeping they told me they just replace the entire steering box... well, ok, it took a while for me to get up onto my feet but I immediately bought the cheapo seal kit and took off. .

Their reasoning was that when they tried to just repair the seal half the time it would come back as another warranty issue 'cause the seal job started leaking again.

Moral of my story... I got my instructions from Jeremy (Case500D... . WHICH BTW I HAVEN'T SEEN IN HERE IN AGES!!! ;) ... )

I installed the Borg. shaft and new seals and was off and running. Thats gotta be near about 3-4 years ago and dry as a bone up to now.

The seal kit/part # that Scott quoted was the one I took to the DC dealer to get my seal kit... . as I recall the little bag with the seals in it had both those numbers which kinda confused me too but it was the right one when I got it home.....

ps: hey philip... . tell Jeremy to git his sorry butt in here on occasion and make fun of us or somthing will ya... . :D:D

time for a new one

Well the weather has gotten to the point of being pretty decent lately, well except for tonight they are calling for snow :--) we will see. Anyways the leaking steering gear box is worse and well i have decided to just put another one on instead of trying to mess with that seal, reason being, no one carries that seal kit, not the dodge dealers around here, My question is after looking at that housing i noticed the pitman arm nut is directly over the leaf spring, can one just undo that nut, deadblow the arm and will it come off????

Also what do i need to mark as far as keeping things aligned?? im sick of that ps oil everywhere its got to go. Oo.
