Has anyone recently worked with Power Steering Services in MO? The bottom oil seal has just let go and is leaking. The old girl has 168K and the box wanders a bit, likely the cause of the oil leak, so I'm going to just replace the whole deal. I found out about them here but would like to get some feedback about any current dealings with them. Also, has anyone done the change recently and upgraded to a faster ratio box?

I did one 2 months ago on mine and replaced with a 3. 25 turn box. It did tighten up my steering some more, but I still do have some play in my steering that I haven't identified yet. I also was hoping for a little easier steering assist. I did the modification to the check valve in the PS pump to increase the available pressure in the system, but it didn't make a huge difference. I can't complain too much, though, since I can still turn the front wheels relatively easily at a dead stop with my plow on. I just wish I could get my '01 to steer like my '03 Ram did.

I just finished doing a PSC 3. 25 turn box, borgeson steering shaft, DSS steering stabilizer... all from PSC and their products are fine. I wish they're delivery was more timely and included tracking #'s. I hope you're not in a rush to get all the products delivered or just plan well in advance and don't start tearing into things until you have all the products and verified they are the right ones (I know, pretty obvious stuff but I got anxious and it had me sitting with a truck on jacks for far too long). They sent me a "Uni-Steer Steering Shaft" that was two inches too short. After a long wait I now have a nice Borgeson shaft installed. All these products absolutely transformed the way this truck drives down the road. Can't believe how bad the OEM design and function of the front end on these trucks is. Wish I had done this years ago.
Also I did the steering column lower bushing replacement and that improved handling and tightened up the feel greatly. I was skeptical about this item but it is well worth the $60 and 2-3 hours of my time.
With the 3rd gen track bar conversion I did last year this truck is a complete pleasure to drive. Eventually I want to do control arms, sway bar bushings and upgrade to 'bulletproof steering linkage' but I'm done for now.

PS Services is where I got my steering box. "Chip" is a great guy to deal with. My Ram came with a steering box (98 12v) that was 4 & 1/4 turns on the steering wheel stop to stop and wandered all over the road. Chip advised a steering box that was 3 turns stop to stop and with small pistons (I have a 2 wheel drive) It cured the wandering problem. Steers as good as a car. Dodge bought their steering boxes from GM, an excellent box but there are no markings on the outside as to ratio. You have to turn the input shaft and count the turns. It seems Dodge did not know what they were buying and GM did not care what they shipped them. May have done it on purpose to make Dodge look bad. Competition, you know. I was about to get rid of my Ram and not knowing any better never buy one again like I have heard others say they were going to do. Then a guy named Quigley wrote about his experience and TDR published it. Quigleys brother had a Ram that was only 3 turns and his was 4 & 1/4 so he after driving his brothers truck changed his steering box. I would guess it could be the luck of the draw as to what box is installed at the factory. I changed mine myself. Questions -- email address removed -- REGARDS Jim

i see a lot of guys running a dss kit on here do they help alot also i have repaired the stock track bar with lukes link seems to eat a lot of grease maybe just because of sloopy way parts fits in the [cap]?

I got my 94-2002 Solid Steel 3rd gen adjustable track bar ($300), Solid Steel 3rd gen track bar conversion bracket kit ($175), DSS Solid Steel Steering Stabilzer ($165) and 3 1/4 turn steering box ($330) all from PSC about 1 month ago. Very nice mods to my front end. If you get the 3 turn box it will be an SG-841M ($330). You don't need to return your old box for core to them either. They offer other Dodge steering boxes so if your not sure, call them to confirm. The 3 turn box makes the truck nice and effortless to drive now... I love it. They offer steering pumps too but they are pricey.



Edit: For some reason I can't find the 2003 track bar conversion bracket or the 94-02 adjustable track bar on their site anymore. What's with that? They may not carry them anymore. Try Rip at www.sourceautomotive.biz in Milwaukie, Oregon. I know they have them.

Not the same place. Power Steering Services is in Springfield MO 417-864-6676, "Chip" is great to deal with. I got a steering box for my Ram aprox. 2 years ago and it cured the wandering problem. I never met Chip but there were no problems returning the $100 core charge.

I'll give PSS a call and see what he has to say. I'll look into PSC as well. I have the luxury right now of being able to do this on my own terms not under the gun. Any "heads up's" to be aware of during the swap? I'll have to repair/ replace shafts etc. An exhaust system and this is a bit much in a months time... .....
