2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering shaft

Gentlemen,
On my truck, should the steering shaft freely telescope in and out? I'm thinking yes, but went through my factory manual and can't find anything that even discusses the shaft in much detail. Mine is stuck and before I start thrashing on it I wanted to be sure.

Generally, yes. It doesn't move much, but it does have to absorb *some* body/frame flexing.

After an overnight soak with some Kroil and a few taps with a 3lb slide hammer it came loose. I flushed it with Naptha and worked it back and forth for a bit. I then coated the shaft with Neversieze and secured the boot with tie wraps. Good to go. It has about 6 - 8 inches of total travel.
