I have noticed a lot of CTD owners talk about steering wander problems and I just wanted to share my experience with my truck.

First let me say that I am not affiliated with T-REX in any way, other than being a satisfied customer.

I have an 02 QC, LB, 4x4. I bought it last year, used, with about 16000 miles on it. Immediately after purchasing it, I noticed that the truck seemed to want to wander all over the road, and the steering seemed to "float" somewhat. It was tougher to control that my old truck, but I thought maybe you just had to get used to it. I read a bunch of the forums about track bars, lukes link, etc. , but never made a decision about how to solve the problem. I thought maybe I would just get used to the problem, or correct it if and when it got really bad.

Several months later, for unrelated reasons, I purchased the T-REX system (with King Shocks). One of the first things that I noticed while driving home from the installation was that and the steering wander basically had gone away. I commented to Kent at T-REX about this and he said one of the benefits of their system (in addition to being able to drive really fast on really rough roads) was the increased control in ALL types of driving conditions.

Again, let me say, I didn't purchase the T-REX system to solve my steering problem, but rather for an off road application. However, one of the many benefits of this system is that I no longer have a steering problem.

Don't mean to step on your toes or start a flame war, but I'm skeptical. I'd like to see Kent Kroeger's take on this.

IMHO he is a straight shooter, definately knows his stuff, and won't spray smack just to make a sale

No offense taken. I'm just sharing the experience I had with my truck. It could be that the problems I was experiencing were suspension related and simply contributed to the truck wandering. Who knows, my steering might start to wander again as the rest of the steering components wear more. Right now, I only have about 29000 miles on the truck.

Kent and I talked about this yesterday. He told me to not worry about still haveing a death wobble after the install. He said "what do you expect a $6 shock to handle with 7000 lbs on it?" Nuff said I guess. It is a crime DC puts such crap on our trucks. T-Rex is coming soon.

$2000 for the Bilstein setup

$3000 for the Fox setup

$3500 for special order Kings

$300 for the rear mini-pack

I should amend my comment. I would think the T-Rex could cure some of the wobblies.

However, it is my impression that most of the death wobblies are due to pre-mature wear on the steering system, especially the track bar. My skepticism applies to the second case. It seems the most common cure for the death wobblies typically is replacing steering components, e. g. the track bar with beefier aftermarket products, e. g. DTT ? or Luke's Link.

Therefore I see three ways for curing the wobblies: replace steering parts, replace steering parts and install T-Rex, trade up to a Gen3 with the redesigned beefier steering components, or trade up to a Gen 3 and install a T-Rex.

I have been fortunate in not having experienced the wobblies in any of my trucks. However, I used to describe driving my 98 12v as "herding my truck" down the road. The Gen3s are a welcome improvement.

Having said all that, I am very impressed by the T-Rex system and plan on installing it in my truck when I can save up the scratch.

A final caveat, I recognize that when it comes to suspension/steering I am inexperienced, ignorant, and unlearned and therefore may be blowing smoke. My comments are based on following the death wobblies threads as a previous Gen2 concerned owner. That why I enjoy reading Kent Kroeker's contributions to threads because of the collective knowledge exposed therein, both by Kent and others :p

T-rex is beyond comparison. I lust for one more than any other mod.

I only have 27K miles on, and steering is nice and tight. The DT ProFab bar is awesome. I don't even have the DSS yet, and my steering is great.

ok my truck wanders all over the place look at my sig and youll see what i have. i put a new steering box on and that didnt do anything . what makes the truck or the steeringweel wonder all over the place????????? realy would like to fix this problem

I ORDERED A T-REX BILSTIEN. NOT HERE YET. MY STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO HAVE WAY TO MUCH PLAY. AFTER T-REX INSTALL I MAY TRY A BORGESON STEERING SHAFT. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. I'M ALSO ORDERING A DT TRACK BAR. I WILL INSTALL EACH ONE SEPARATE TO SEE WHICH MAKES MOST DIFFERENCE.
