Hi Gang; Yesterday I replaced my leaking steering box with a PSC SG-841-M. it was a relativly easy change thanks to having a new pitman arm. (broke the tool trying to remove the old one). As careful as I was the steering wheel is off by a little bit. With the wheels strait ahead the wheel is almost 90degrees off to the right. I tried to reposition the pitman arm, but as you know it goes on in 4 positions due to the shaft segments of 90 degrees.

by repositioning it 90 degrees, it is off to the other side. Any ideas????? Due to the flat on the coupler, the shaft only goes on 1 way.

There's a turnbuckle-like adjustment on the rod that goes from the pitman arm to the steering rod (drag link?). Loosen the bolts on the clamps (may have to spread them open a bit with a big screwdriver or pry bar) and grab that adjustment with a set of channel locks and rotate it. That will lengthen/shorten the rod and in the process cause your steering wheel to rotate to match the direction your wheels are pointing.

You may have to adjust it a few times, driving in between adjustments, to get it just right.

just make sure when your pitman arm is on the steeringbox it sits slightly off to the right (looking at it from the front of the box) and adjust the draglink accordingly to straighten the steering wheel :)

Does anyone know if the slideing joint on the steering shaft between the column and the box can be rotated 90 degreese by slideing it apart????? I installed a new PSC 3 1/4 turn steering box on monday and now my steering wheel is 90 degrees off to thr right (Top of wheel points to 3 oclock). The universal joints can't be moved, as they only go on 1 way. and though the pitman arm can go on 4 different ways that is not an option either. On another forum I was advised to adjust my drag link to even it up but those who advised this all had 4X4 trucks Mine is 2wd and the drag link is non adjustable. Thanks in advance for any and all advise. "Ironbutt" The box is great, and the truck tracks straight as an arrow. just the wheel is off.

Have you taken it to an alignment shop, yet? My book isn't real clear on how to adjust the steering wheel on the 2wd. All it says, is to adjust each side for half the total toe position spec, to get the steering wheel straight. If there is an adjustment sleeve on the tie rod on the drivers side, try adjusting that. I don't think the steering shaft can be rotated.

Did you make sure BEFORE removing the steering shaft that you isolated the steering wheel by either tying it down to the brake pedal and/or locking the steering column? If you removed it w/o doing that it probably turned w/o you recognizing it before you re-installed the shaft. IF thats the case you run the risk of tearing the clock spring if you turn the wheel lock to lock. Hopefully this isn't the case but something to investigate.
