I just switched out my stocker turbo for a buddies Aurora 2000 and also put a 3 peice HTT manifold in. What a P. I. T. A... . had to mod the shock tower to clear the wastegate. Installed new 4" downpipe also. I'm still frigg'in hot, even runnin Comp on 2x1 or 1x1 if I stay in it, not towing. I switched because of pulling my 33' Prowler (10K lb) last weekend and hit 1250-1300 easy, never saw below 1000 entire trip. I thought the new charger would help, much bigger inlet and exhaust dumping staight into a 4" D. P. I'm making good power just can't use it! I'm beginning to think something is wrong else where, any suggestions on where or what to look at? I see others posting with same items not getting as hot? Also the turbo had a regulator in line to the wastegate, boost control? (Looks like a small air reg. ) How does this work? Sorry for all the questions, any help would be great! #@$%!

Once you step up to a bigger turbo, your cruising EGT's will be much higher.

1,250 is not what I would consider "hot".

What are you seeing for temps now?

You do have 140hp injectors. That is worth a little bit of heat there...

What is your boost reading? The injectors are your problem on heat..... step down to 100hp injectors & you will have a great towing truck. With 100hp sticks you will be able to use the power that the truck is making without even looking at the pyro & I bet you don't lose any hp.

the regulator adjusts the pressure to activate the wastegate--if the wastegate is opening to soon your temps will be hot--I'd play with that first to see if it helps then possibly step down in injector size or you will have to do something turbo wise--maybe twins to tow like you want---but play with the wastegate settings to see that helps---higher the setting the later the wastegate opens--I'd also call ATS and ask them what setting they think you should set it to--then you can start adjusting from there to see if you can get it dialed in----chris

I'm seeing 850 to 950 egts just cruising down the highway at 1850 rpm's, cruise set and pretty flat. I have been playing with the regulator some and max boost is at 35 right now, can I up it? No studs or o-rings! Yes I also agree the 140's are alot but she sings till I hit 1500... then let off. . I think you guys are right to step down to 90's or 100's to have a good towing truck. I just can't do twins right now. . wish I could! Well if everthing seems ok for what I have... what 90's-100's do you suggest and how hard are they to put in? (Looks straight forward) I had local shop do the 140's for me... I'm doing everything myself from now on... nobody takes the time to do a good job anymore. . I always wonder if it was done right... lol... may take me twice as long but I'll get it done right! Thanks again for your help.

stock HGs can handle up to 50 psi. caution here! "up to" because boost isnt everything and age heat factory tolerance and timing all play a role but most of us push 40-45 so sweat. i put in my own nozzles no biggie, just use caution and keep everything clean. ask us if u have a problem it will save u much sorrow!

a good rule of thumb to follow is to try and keep high boost down until the truck water temp is up to operating speed--a cold truck will blow a head gasket at much lower boost levels than a warm truck---injectors are pretty easy---chris

I will bump it to 40psi. . what is a good 100 injector, F1's ok? Makes alot of sense to keep boost low until 190* and let the metal seat and expand... good tip!

F1 is highly acclaimed on this site. I would also check out Industrial Injections 3 flows... . great injectors!

what rpm are you cruising at?

i think it was the 3rd gen HG's that were good to 50psi and ours was 40psi.

i hit 45psi on my 97 with stock hg and 175k and it held without studs. i wouldnt tow like that though.

can you just tow with the box off?

its easy to make alot of horse power, but using it to tow is another story. if you wanna keep your power where its at and tow with it, get twins.

I talked to BD yesterday and told them what was going on with the heat issue. I actually have 155hp injectors not 140hp! I was advised that with 155's I will never cool it down with a single charger and twins may also run hot with Drap Comp. etc... So I will be installing the BD 90hp injectors, he said it should work well with my combo. and drop HEAT. Towing will also improve.

I'm finding out the hard way ($$$). . that their is a fine line to a daily driver truck that you want to go fast, roll the smoke, and tow well also. I've determined... . well you can't have it all. COMPROMISE. . word of the day. The Comp box is very nice and adjustable, but with big injectors = massive fuel and heat. I hope that my post will make others aware that large injectors will require very large turbo's (66) or twins to be useable, I can run like I'am, but for only 10-15 sec. then I hit 1500-1600. I will normally pull most trucks off the line good but then I have to lift. Not fun as a much slower truck passed you because your at 1600* To answer a question I can still hit 14-1500* with the Comp off when I hit OD and hold it. Curious though if a HTT quick diesel 64/14 would work well?? Anyone want my BD 155's? 90's going in this weekend will post results! Thanks for all your input

If you can, avoid teh BD injector, and gor for a quality EDM. Consider F1's injectors, or Dynomite Diesel's.

I have a Mach 4. 8 injector in my truck, and it gets pretty warm, but is very easy to drive without smoke... (That's almost a 200HP injector!)

I ran a Diesel Dyanmics 120hp (140 I can't recall) injector, and it was much smokier. Cruising I had a steady stream of smoke. My f1's are clean.

I had 150HP and 10k trailer, hx35/40 juice 1x1, going up prolonged 6% grade it is going to get hot, still hot with 105HP mach 2, not terrible, but 1100 is on the low side 1250 as a max. using about 18lbs and 85 ambient temp. I slow to 45-55 and I am fine in 5th gear on the 6 spd. I have about a 3. 95 rear end(adjusted for bigger tires).

keep rpm about 2200.

I tow 15k# & have no heat issues with my setup. If you were to get a Super turbo... . you could run bigger sticks. I think you will be more than happy with the 90's... . perfect match for the 2000 turbo. Any 64 compressor turbo is gonna be too laggy to tow heavy... . stick with a 62 for towing. I learned that the hard way. The best towing mod for your truck is a Smarty... . thats what makes heavy towing easy & after the 90's go in... . your truck will feel stronger with the 90's & Smarty rather than the 155 BD's. Just my $. 02

The Aurora 2000 is a non-wastegated turbo, you have something else if you had to modify the shock tower for the wastegate. The Aurora is a direct bolt in with no modification required.

I swapped out to the BD 90's last night and adjusted the valves while I was at it. . first time doing both... . not so bad, just took my time! I finnished up around 12am and went riding, not too bad runs stong and smooth, not as much smoke as the 155's but still plenty. . lol . I did notice a diff. in temps, I can still get 1400* but I have to really stay in it hard where as before it came fast. Regular cruising mabe 50-75* cooler, not that noticable. Can't wait to tow the TT! As far as the Aurora goes? I bought it used off a buddie, it is mabe 2-3 years old, I asked him the same question? The new Aurora's don't have a wastegate? He said thats what it was. . so? I will try to load a pic. mabe you guys can tell. . but it is much larger than stock so I could not go wrong for the price! Thanks

OK, here are the links to the turbo pics! let me know what you think!
