I have a completely stock 06 CTD with the exception of a exhaust brake.

I have noticed over the past few months after some normal driving on the highway or even in town driving, If I really get into the go pedal aka up to red line I can make a noticeable amount of black smoke, and wave of dirty air come out the tail pipe. Now yesterday I hopped in the truck at about 5:40 in the afternoon in Seattle 65 or so outside, I started to crank, it cranked and cracked. Then I stopped. Tried again in a few seconds crank crank then it finally started but now it has a really poor idle, almost like a plug wire fell off. Not a really bad idle but enough to really go what the. . I drove home and at higher RPM seemed to be fine and only came back while sitting at stop signs on occasion. No codes list on the truck, I check the oil its down a bit but seems about average for the miles on the oil change.

History

I have owned the truck from Day 1, never a box or turner, stock air and fuel system. I change the fuel filters, oil and air regularly. I used to tow heavy until the past year, and the truck has been great.

could be injector leaking , could be FCA . Is it smooth at higher RPM? maywant to try some 2 stroke oil in the fuel tank if it smooths out at idle then it is your FCA. The Crank, crank could be another issue hang loose and better intelligence will be here to help.

My 06 has always let a cloud of black when I stab it after a while of driving. Almost like it loads up. Sounds to me like a bad injector.
