was wondering how much boost can a stock turbo make before bearings start to go or other problems. Changed out boost elbow with one from BD, with Adrenaline programer truck will boost about 40psi egt's stay in the 1250 range, stock boost elbow will boost upto 30 psi and egt's are in the 1500 range full throtle. Is it safe to run the BD elbow at 40 psi?

HX35 is out of its map around 33-35psi anything more is hot air and will decrease the life of the turbo. 40psi prolly wont kill the HX35 but you should start looking into a new turbo to keep up with where youre going.

I was having the same problem of boosting up to and over 40psi. I went back to the factory boost elbow to keep the HX35 within it's mapping curve. My other worry was the factory head gasket. I was told that it's limit is about the same as the HX35, right around that 34-35psi mark. Is this true or am i worrying for nothing. I was going to upgrade my turbo, but if the head gasket won't take it i'll have to wait until i can afford to do both at the same time. Hoping i just got some bad info and the head gasket is a little better than that.

I'm no expert on the issue but if I remember correctly, the stock head gasket is good to close to 50 psi boost.

yep. 45-50 is pretty safe. some trucks will hold 60 some 40 but most 45 is safe. other factors such as temp, drive pressure, timing, fueling, water inj. , age, all have an affect.

Once u start doin fueling mods get a bigger turbo so u dont melt her down(Dont get me wrong black smoke is sweet but all that smoke means lack of air!)

My . 02. I'd run the elbow- as long as its not over 40psi. If you're really worried about it, get an adjustable one and set it to 36-38psi. I think one can be had for around $15.

consider a s300 turbo, they flow more air and will be good for more HP than an hx35 or 35/40. they can be had for about $900
