Ford 500 - Chrysler 300

Apollo Command/Service Module book recommendation

Looking into selling a small portion of my investments and using the proceeds to buy some riskier stocks. I'm already well-diversified and am just going to keep a small portion for speculation. What do you think of:

KMRT

GOOG

LU

These are the main three I'm looking at now (wish I'd bought KMRT a month ago, though lol). Any other suggestions to look into?

Chris

Agreed, Google is way to pricey because it's been bid up by speculators and gamblers, not investors.

I haven't read up on Lucent's financials in a while, so I'm not in a position to say much about them. I know that in the recent past, they were in a lot of trouble.

KMRT is to me not in a position that makes it an attractive place to put money. How well was Kmart doing before it was bought out? Oh yeah, they went bankrupt. How well has Sears been doing? Again, it's stagnant. AFAIK, there has been no change of management at either place, so we could pretty safely assume more of the same. They aren't in a position to place hardball with their suppliers (ALA Wally mart), so I don't see how they are yet positioned to compete.

If you like retail, I'd look more at companies like the Gap.

I've been eyeing Sirius satellite radio. I think they could be a real player in the next few years. They are much more savvy than XM, even though the presently lack the market share. I look to see XM play Apple to Sirius' Microsoft.

Regarding KMart/Sears, I agree with you regarding both companies' market positions prior to the merger. With the tax relief and possibly selling off some of their properties, I think they might be able to get back into it. Plus, I don't want to underestimate Lampert. Might be a good time to get in on the ground floor - still not sure, though. Maybe I'll hold off a couple weeks and see how it looks.

I'll look into Sirius some more, too - thanks for the feedback, guys!

Chris

Google and Kmart are both over priced. Lucent still scares me a little, but I'd probably buy some at this point with a sell stop at $3. 00. Sirius is good put you are chasing at this point. Watch for a pullback to the $4. 00 - $4. 50 range. Do soome research on EPIX, GASE.

Lockheed Martin has climbed with a recent contract from the AF. And Texas Intrusments has also ben climbing up from a Low they were in.

I have had good luck w/ POL. Bought it @ $5. 07 a share a year ago, closed at $ 9. 36 today.

I like a couple of the big high tech stocks that got hit hard when the bubble burst, but have a solid foundation and will come back: ORCL & CSCO I also like a fairly small bio-tech company that makes cancer drugs: OSIP

In all seriousness, we have some Ford stock. Price is quite low right now and regardless of how we (TDR kinda guys) feel about Ford, it ain't gonna go bankrupt. In fact, the price of their stock is probably 150% - 200% of what we paid a couple years ago. Just something to think about. And while those Ford guys keep buying their 'strokes, I keep smiling each time the price of Ford stock goes up.

Look at RRI and CNP. RRI is a IPP (independent power producer) and has the Houston electric market, plants on the left and right coast, along with the worlds largest, new waste coal burning plant.

CNP owns gas and electric distribution systems and gas transmission systems. Both these companys were killed when Enron went under. They've been on the brink of going under themselves, but now with time and management following plans that have them on much firmer ground, they are poised to see 50 to 100% gains in the next 2 or 3 years.

Do your own DD, if you check with a broker, you'll likely be given a negative report since not many analysis follow either company and most brokers aren't going to do the necessary DD to see the total picture. But ask and see what they say.

Good luck, RJR
