Here’s a question for everyone. While traveling down the road above, let’s say 40 MPH and hit a bump I get a noise like someone hitting the frame with a hammer. It doesn’t seem to do this while I’m going around a curve just head on into the bump. I’ve checked for anything loose under the truck and can’t seem to find anything. Now I know I’ve driving a 1 ton and the suspension will make some noise but this sounds strange. Maybe someone can tell me I’m crazy and this is normal. Like I said before it doesn’t happen every time I hit a bump, it’s totally random. It just makes me made when my Ford buddy is riding along and asks what’s that noise, we don’t here it in his truck. Of course I always come back with, whys your truck always in the shop for those oil leaks. . Thanks for nay input guys. . ROB

Lots of posts over time about a BANG when hitting small pothole or uneven payment on one side low speeds. etc. Mine did it a lot in cold weather never warm or hot. Seems to have gone away or?? Anyhow it was mentioned getting some lube in between the rear leafs. Maybe raise it on a lift and use some PB Blaster and see if it stops. If so maybe getting something heavier in between them.

Thanks for the input, I'll give that a try. It's very hard to tell if the noise is coming from the front or the back of the truck but I'm willing to try anything at this point. I hate when my ear gets tuned into a noise, I can turn the radio up all the way and still here it.

Same deal here. Took a while for me to tune into it. It was under/behind me. Couldn't make it do it etc. But it was a like a big rubber mallet hit it hard. Seems mine has stopped on its on but I have not driven it much this winter and trailer been hooked to it for several months. On top of that its not been very cold.

My 03 was doing this for a while it ended up being a front shock. The rubber bushing somehow worked its way out of position so that there was metal to metal contact when I hit bumps.

Not even close on the type of vehicle but I had an '81 Chevy half ton that popped and banged when I'd hit a bump or turn a certain way. Turned out to be a loose transmission crossmember bolt.

I think I would just look for loose items in the front suspension area and then maybe start checking for bolts that might have worked loose. Barring that wait until something falls off and that will probably be the source!

Had similar noise once found out it was the hitch and receiver, just enough play to cause it to rattle and thump when it was in or when trailer was not attached.

i have that same sound on my 05 3500 srw. only when hitting potholes, not big ones. from what i can tell. it is the overload leafs hitting the bumpstops that makes the sound. when i am loaded with trailer and rear suspension sqats down a bit to sit on overload leafs. it never does it. no matter how much of a pothole u hit or how rough the road is. only when empty or under 700lbs in the bed do i notice it.

Are you SURE Piers isn't under your truck? ;) :D

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm starting to think the noise might me coming from the rear leaf bump stop. I'm not sure of any good way to test this theory, any thoughts? All I can say about Piers is I wish I had two under the hood then I wouldn't be able to here this damn noise. . Thanks again everyone. . ROB
