2013 Ram Intermittent Stumbling From Stop

Generally I use this truck only for towing and we just got done moving. During that time I loaded an enclosed trailer and the bed about 6 times for 225 mile trips each way till move was done. Needed to replace fuel filters after this and I did that a few days ago. Took it for a short drive to make sure it ran okay due to counterfeit filter issues (No problems). Went to Home Depot to get some supplies across town and on the way home i got the "Exhaust system regeneration in progress exhaust filter 100% full" message. I thinking I'm going to have to drive it a while to clear it. 3 minutes later it says "Regeneration completed". So I just finished my drive home.
I've never seen this message come up since I've owned it, (about 3 years now) and I've put 25,000 miles on it in that time. I don't like to idle much, but we're in a small city now so there is stop and go traffic I have to deal with, so it has been idling more than usual.
All that caught me by surprise and especially it only taking about 3 minutes to finish the active regeneration. Just want to get a few opinions on this and if the truck is okay and normal. Thanks

The company I've been working at for 11 years, we have had many RAM trucks. I drove a 2014 3500 for 6 months and about 20k miles, and I never seen that come up, even after extensive idling.

I don't recall anyone else at that time having the problem.

The 2020 I'm driving now for the company, since last 2021, never has announced anything with the DPF, and I've done some long idle stints with it.

I doubt it is an issue, however, I'd recommend getting a copy of AlfaOBD, and a Bluetooth dongle and take some screenshots of what the values are of the DPF and post them.

Never seen that on my 2014. I've had some pretty long idle times right after I got the truck. It had 130K when I got and now has 176K. It's never even given me any notice about the filter percentages. Agree with @Diesel85 about getting screen shots with AlfaOBD to help with issue. Good luck with the gremlins!

@Lordsman , You can get dongle here direct; https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp/, or you can find them on Amazon. The MX+ functions the best for our trucks and also gives you a standard OBD reader to use on other vehicles. Once you get the items and need help, just post up or PM me. The first thing would be to download the config file as the truck is , so that you can change back if something goes wrong. Also a good idea to have a notebook to keep track of the changes that you do. AlfaOBD doesn't change things instantly, takes time for the modules to write and execute the commands. Change one thing at a time. Also has great logging ability to help with issues. We're here to help when needed.

I'll order it and follow those instructions. Thanks for the offer to back me up if needed!
Do you have an Apple or Android device? Unless things have changed, Alpha would not work on my Apple products.
My ‘14 was plagued with the regen messages you mentioned. My truck never idled and mostly ran longer trips. It came to the point of the 100% full message would come on every time I started the truck. It didn’t matter if I started it once a day or 20 times.

What software updates have you had done to the rig?

There are some large TSB updates showing on AllData.

They appear to deal with bunch of software issues. These show up in 2018 for example, and of course the new 2024 one is in there that recalibrates the DEF which is not related to the DPF that I know of.

It would be interesting to see if they have rolled up all these into on package.

From what I recall Tramplineman would even do stationary Regens on his rigs and nothing seemed to help some rigs.

It seems and reads like there are software.fixes they have made specifically for 2014's.

I'm on an android device. I took it to dealer 3 years ago to make sure everything was updated, they said all software was up to date. Never been back to the dealer since then.
Don't like going to dealer. My '05 honks the horn in reverse if the door is open. Very irritating!
The '14 had a problem surging and bucking when cold. Dealer didn't have a clue what it was. Someone on this site told me the FCA was the problem and it certainly was. Been running great ever since.

You are correct. I had many stationary desoots done to my ‘14. The desoot would run for hours and the smell was pretty aweful. I’d shut the truck off after it was complete, start it and the 100% full message would appear. Dealer changed out the DPF under warranty. I drove the truck 30 minutes home. Next morning I started the truck and 100% full message came on. Dealers final word was, we really don’t know what’s wrong and don’t know where to go from here.

Tramlineman, did you get it figured out or replace the truck with another? I haven't had any more regen issues messages and have towed a bunch since. Got my Alpha MX+ just in case.
