OK - I'm just started - acyually 4 hours into the fix - man what a job. Joe Donnelly's 3rd paragraph , issue 46 (I'm stuck on - I have some photos to help..... hope you guys can guide me through this... . here goes... . )

A TDR member sent me some data and he stated:

I should have indicated that the Assembly-Disassembly PDF was written for my model year 2000 Ram - manual transmission, 4x4, with a Jacobs exhaust brake

Now I have an 01 with an auto... ... .

Joe also states that the heater core can be replaced without discharging the AC system... .

OK - I have zero experience with AC systems and I want to keep it that way... . so when we got to the following step - I was very confused... .

Remove the two AC joint clips by popping them off the connectors near the firewall. Remove the AC drier clamp from the bracket and then remove the 11mm nut that holds the bracket to the PCM mounting plate and firewall (NOW MINE DOESN't attach to the PCM). Please look at these photos -

Joe also has on step 9 of his detailed instructions:

9. Remove two AC Joint Clips (How do you do that) Silver clip attaches to Black Pipe. Black Clip attaches to Silver Pipe.

10. Loosen AC Accumulator Clamp and remove (it slips forward out of bracket)

1. Which clamps are we referring two?

2. How do you disconnect them.

3. Why doesn't this "open the AC system"

Don't need to touch the AC

These photo's are of my AC evap core replacement, but 6 months before the AC work the heater core went, my mechanic never took the AC out to do this.

Notice in the linked 1st photo the copper tubes and the top of the heater core.

The core is held down with 2 screws over the tubes, remove and disconnect from the hoses on the fwd side of the firewall.

gently bend the brass tubes from the firewall and then pull the heater core straight up.

The new one goes in the same way, you just have to be carefull when bending the tubes.

The photo on this page is how they blocked the coolant lines.

See my photos in this link the first one shows the top of the heater core.

1. The power and batteries have been unhooked for 7 hours - so I assume the airbags can't be deployed - why do I have to screw with this - I assume that since my truck is an automatic I don't have to do what Joe Recommended - am I wrong??????

2. Well this is an ongoing project and moved her out of the way... ...
