need to replace the rear universal joint on my 1997 4x4 3500 dodge. got the drive shaft out but cannot press the joint out of the shaft. don't want to use heat as it may weaken the ears. any recomendations on how to proceed? I have bent these before so want to try a better method.
if it is held in by injection molded plastic, it will have a small hole on the top of the ear and when you heat it up the plastic will start squirting out of that hole.
BFH. Alternate sides until it moves a little, soak it with WD40, and back up the bottom ear with a socket or similar. I think the shock of a hammer is a lot easier on it compared to hydraulic pressure.
