This is probably a stupid KDP question... but...

I've read a ton of KDP fixit threads and how to articles and PDF files, but not a single one says to drain the oil. Does this mean that all three gallons of oil are in the oil pan, and thus draining the oil is not needed or has everyone left out that step?

Thanks for the collective wisdom.

To expand, your Killer Dowel Pin is in what helps align the gear case to the front of the engine block. When you pull the front gear case cover off, you are not getting into the oil pan at all. As long as you have let the oil drain down, you won't have a mess.

Not stupid to ask, stupid to not consider the consequences of not asking! I didn't ask and got lucky when I did mine several years ago. Looking back, there are always little nooks and crannies that could hold enough oil to make a small mess.

I agree, the only stupid question is the one you were afraid to or too pigheaded to ask. It's easier to learn from the mistakes of others than to have clean up your own mistake.
