My assumption would be the recommendation against direct sunlight is specific to the increased temperatures that would entail.

That makes sense. But as it was explained to me, sunlight itself has the effect of degrading the DEF. I am not a chemist and I have noticed that around here the DEF above ground tanks and delivery truck tanks are made of a translucent polymer. The company that I worked for filled 275-gallon totes for smaller deliveries and they were the same or similar translucent material. Larger bulk deliveries were made from a truck with stainless tanks. Of course none of the DEF that we ever had come in by transport spent more than a few days in the terminal before it was delivered to a customer so degradation was not a consideration. Our recommendation to all of our customers was to store the totes or have their bulk tanks in a storage shed or shop to keep it out of direct sunlight to avoid any issue. In the ten years before I retired I am not aware of any issue that we ever had with DEF. And I would expect that there were tens of millions of gallons involved.

Ok problem solved. I looked in the book. Not much help really. I don’t have the fancy overhead console . Didn’t want it or need it plus it’s really in your vision if your a tall person. The switch is on the regular overhead it’s a on off rocker switch .So off on and on when doors open. Nice to have lights when you get in at night

It's my experience here in E.TN that to date there hasn't been a DEF shortage. I traved from TN to N.Ca towing our trailer and back last Nov-Dec and did not experience a shortage.
When my DEF Gauge says 1/2 I buy 2 boxes. 1 goes in the tank ,and the other goes in storage. Either in my home or travel trailer. It's how I've been doing it for 7 years now. I try to keep the tank below the full mark in the Winter if the truck isn't being used, and fuel tank topped off.
Plenty of DEF in all the usual places around here. Oil on the other hand is non-existent for newer model ram CTD's.

I used to get calls all the time about similar situations to yours with the dome lights. I could tell immediately they hadn't read their owner manual. You really should read through it, especially on new truck.

I got a call yesterday from the fellow that bought my '98. He was in the truck and said he'd put the parking brake on Sunday but the brake light had been on ever since, power was down, and the rear brakes were very hot. I asked him if he'd released it and he said yes, he'd pushed the pedal again to release it. I told him about the release lever. He couldn't find it. I asked him if he'd read his owner manual and he said "Is there one in it?" He'd been driving the truck for two days with the parking brake on.

Amen Brother on reading manuals. I found the manual for my 2017 5500 on line before taking delivery. For the most part, it adequately addresses everything. I see this on every forum, especially the one for my Super C RV. It's OK for folks to use forums to find answers to their issues. My first look is OM, then OEM SM, open Google search, then here. But nothing wrong coming straight here. It's all in what works best for each of us. I don't mind helping folks if I can. And with my severe concussion I sustained in 2017, I don't mind getting help on here too.

Cheers, Ron

Does anyone have the address for the guy who came up with the leaky spout? I want to go over and dump some Def in his driveway...
I hear ya, there is a way to mostly assure it won't leak and it's a finesse thing. It must be screwed on evenly, and tightening is particularly critical. I lightly tighten, slightly loosen, then lightly tighten again. You don't want to strip it. I pull the full accordion out, insert into tank filler holding it, then raise the DEF container while inverting it. After the first one, I haven't spilled any more. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ron
