2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission subwoofer 2ohm vs 4ohm

Sorry if this is not the correct place to post. I am replacing rockford fosgate 8" 4ohm subs with something comparable by the same brand. These are 10 years old and have been discontinued so the rep suggested a 2ohm replacement. Is 2ohm better than 4ohm?

As long as the amp is 2 ohm stable, the speakers themselves will be easier for the amp to drive.

I suspect the change from 4 ohm to 2 ohm would not be a problem for most direct-coupled amplifiers (there's a phrase I don't use every day!!) I am old enough of a fossil to remember tube audio systems, and when a 16 (yep we had 'em) or 8 ohm stage was loaded with a 2 ohm load (speaker) severe audio clipping was the result. (NOW where's my cane???) As me old man would say, it gets into impedance matching and… (ya don't wanna know).

Check the fosgate website. It depends how many subs you will be running and what your amp is capable of handling.
