I am looking to upgrade my stock turbo. I think I am between 300 and 400 HP. I have been running my current setup for about five years. I am OK with the power, but would like to reduce the EGT and smoke, especially the EGT.

2WD ‘96, Automatic (DTT), with 3. 54 gears (19. 5 tires/wheels)

#10 plate

boost elbow

370 injectors

Timing at 16*

3KGV spring kit

50-lb (as I recall) exhaust valve springs

Marine Head Gasket

4" exhaust and muffler (3” turbo through 3-inch US Gear Exhaust Brake to 3” resonator)

BHAF

Between 25 to 30-psi boost maximum.

My truck is 6,200 lbs and Truck Camper is 4,200 (10,400-lb total weight), and I occasionally tow flat a 2,200-lb Zuki.

I have to constantly keep an eye on my EGT and need to back out of the throttle quite frequently when passing, or climbing to keep the temps below 1250/1300*. It is rare that I can put the pedal to the metal, due to EGT.

Does anyone else tow with the same or similar configuration, and have any suggestions on what turbo to get that would lower my EGT, while allowing me to use my available power?

I have been to several websites looking at turbos. All of them claim to lower EGT. I am looking for some "real world" info on what works, and what doesn't.

My HTBG 57/12 works great in that range! even towing up to 10K. It will give 40psi and as a s300 type it wont "pop" the way hx40s do. Also if your needs change HTT can change it to match.

Thanks for the reply.

I went to the HTT site, and could not find the HTBG 57/12.

When you say "pop", are you referring to what is sometimes called "barking"?

Wayne

Yep, BANG! the HTBG is part of the HTB2 series. it is a 57/65/12or14.

So, you get less "bang for the buck"?:-laf

It is my understanding, from the HTT site, you must have a 4" exhaust for the HTB2 series chargers. Do I understand this correctly?

Too many other toys (spendy) for twins, but did give some thought.

the B2 and/or s300 series use the HX40 4" downpipe. if you dont want to upgrade your E-brake then maybe a hybrid is for you. maybe dodgezilla?

OK, for possibilities, I am looking at the PDR PDR HX35 ($675) and City Diesel Dodgezilla Hybrid Turbo ($685). Does anyone know how one differs from the other?

Wayne

Isn't the US Gear a remote mount??? If so you have a wider choice of turbo's to choose from and still keep the brake.

IMHO the PDR HX35 will not support the power you have. I have to back out of mine when towing through the passes (although I weigh a lot more). Can not comment on the Dodgezilla.

I doubt I will find something that will let me have the 3-inch exhaust brake and go pedal to the medal in all situations. I am looking for something better than my stock turbo.
