I am looking to upgrade my stock turbo. I think I am between 300 and 400 HP. I have been running my current setup for about five years. I am OK with the power, but would like to reduce the EGT and smoke, especially the EGT.
2WD ‘96, Automatic (DTT), with 3. 54 gears (19. 5 tires/wheels)
#10 plate
boost elbow
370 injectors
Timing at 16*
3KGV spring kit
50-lb (as I recall) exhaust valve springs
Marine Head Gasket
4" exhaust and muffler (3” turbo through 3-inch US Gear Exhaust Brake to 3” resonator)
BHAF
Between 25 to 30-psi boost maximum.
My truck is 6,200 lbs and Truck Camper is 4,200 (10,400-lb total weight), and I occasionally tow flat a 2,200-lb Zuki.
I have to constantly keep an eye on my EGT and need to back out of the throttle quite frequently when passing, or climbing to keep the temps below 1250/1300*. It is rare that I can put the pedal to the metal, due to EGT.
Does anyone else tow with the same or similar configuration, and have any suggestions on what turbo to get that would lower my EGT, while allowing me to use my available power?
I have been to several websites looking at turbos. All of them claim to lower EGT. I am looking for some "real world" info on what works, and what doesn't.
