For those that feel pressured to use an API licensed product, we have them and encourage you to use them (XLT, XLF and PCO).

THAT is interesting! How long has the doughnut been on the Amsoil bottle? Is that for real? If that is real then there is no longer any issue with the product. Why didnt anyone else mention that it meets the specs? This ends the debate, completely, I'm going home now. Amsoil on dudes! Heck, I might experiment with some now. Would someone who sells it please PM me with the cost of 12 quarts and include shipping to 78654. What does the 12TBN mean?

The bottle with the API donut on it is the synthetic blend mentioned a few posts back by amsoilman. It appears the full synthetic does not meet the API specification because of the enhanced additive package. Carefully read the response from Amsoil for the details.



In spite of the bashing back and forth, this has been a good thread and I have learned something.
 
TBN

Total Base Number (TBN) is the measurement of a lubricant's reserve alkalinity. The higher a motor oil's TBN, the more effective it is in handling contaminants and reducing the corrosive effects of acids for an extended period of time. An oil can start out with a high TBN but deplete it rapidly, gets you nowhere. The true test is how long the TBN remains high after use.
