Hey all,

I'm hooking up my Hella lights and need to find an switched (only hot when the ignition key is in the on position) 12v spot to connect my relay trigger. I had it connected to the battery, however I am tired of having to jump the truck having left the Hella's on all night. Any good spots under the hood???

Thanks

Ron

Yes. There are several spare relay positions in the PDC. There are even two positions for fog lamp relays. You'll have to do a little wiring beneath the PDC. Jumper from the wiper relay control circuit (powered from RUN-ACC) to your fog lamp relay control circuit. Jumper through a spare fuse slot to power on the relay. Et cello! When you turn the key on, the fog lamps will work.

Pardon a dumb question but why not just pick up the low beam headlight or parking light feed as a trigger supply? I may not fully understand but am guessing you have fused battery feed for load supply and are looking for a 'smart' 12V feed to the foglight switch controlling the relay?? If so…the above circuits won't be dead unless the appropriate headlight switch position is off BUT, your foglight function will be tied the the warning chime keeping you from leaving ANY lights on!!

Diesel Dog,

What I want is my Driving Lights to come on only with the key in the on position. I do not want the Driving Lights to be subject to having any other light on (Running Lights, Head Lights {low and/or high beam}). That's why I am looking for a keyed-on wire I can tap to trigger my Driving Lights relay. Alternatively, when the key is off, the relay will not have any power and I won't run my battery down having left the Driving Light switch in the on position.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks

Ron

The fused wire going to the reverse light switch is hot only when the key is in the "Run" position. I hooked up my rear mounted camera to that wire so it will be on any time the key is in run.

I use a circuit boss from painless it gives me 3 constant hot and 4 accessory hot fused circuits for all my aftermarket accessories. Then I added a 90amp resetable circuit breaker on the main feed to the circuit boss. I love this set up because if I ever need to chase an electrical problem I can rule out all of my accessories with the push of a button and if something shorts it will not affect my factory wiring at all.

It may be overkill for just a set of hellas but if you have a CB, heated seats, custom radio wiring, pillar gages or anything else in addition to your Hellas it is well worth the trouble.

Thanks guys, great suggestions. I plan on tackling this project tomorrow. I think a Painless System is in my future as I am getting more and more aftermarket accessories.
