Well, I was always curious what my truck made on the dyno. . 400-500 was my guess. A place near me has a huge dyno that can load the truck down and they can hook up their computer to see what my Smarty is doing. Maybe I was tuned correctly, maybe I was way off. . no way for me to really know.
Turns out, my truck makes 456hp/956tq.
So I asked about their EFILive tuning, and turns out they have a tuner that is made to work with my exact setup. They could remove the Smarty and install their Spade tuner (King Version) and run it again on the dyno for a direct comparison. Hmmmm... And it would only take 30 minutes... hmmmmmmmmm.
30 minutes later, she's back on the dyno. This time, making 535hp/1078tq!!
The numbers don't tell the whole story, though. She builds boost so quickly now, it's shocking. I'll definitely have to turn it way down for winter.
Boost went from 42-44 before, to around 46-48 now. Where Smarty power peaked at 2600 rpm and dropped about 45hp in a straight line to 3200 rpm, this tuner has a 50 hp advantage from 2200 rpm up to where Smarty peaked at 2600, then the power advantage continues to grow to a max difference of over 100 hp, holding roughly 100 hp more from 2800 to 3200.
While that's all impressive enough, it's the part throttle response while driving that's making me post this. I had a 900lb tank in my bed, and the truck felt like a sports car.
My truck made very little smoke before, and makes no more now with the extra power. Maybe a very little bit more at full throttle and high rpm loaded on the dyno. I took video to compare.
Overall, I'm very impressed. I understand Smarty has a version similar to EFILive, but I was feeling frisky and wanted something new. Boy, I got it!!
They also ran the truck on the dyno with Smarty removed and factory tune... 313/575. Not bad!!
I'll keep you guys posted with any new developments, good and bad. Mpg comparisons, EGT differences, etc.
I have the dyno sheet showing my truck with EFILive tuning, smarty S-06 tuning, and with no tuner. I'll try to get my wife to post it, since she is the tech person in this house.
