Anyone think it's a mistake? I was just about to start to play with the 97, but I got to thinking (usually not good) and looking around, and realized that I'd be much happier with a quad than my reg cab. So, before I start modding, I might as well get the truck that I really want first.

I found an '01 4x4 Quad LB 2500 at a pretty decent price. I've done the search on various issues such as the VP and 53, but neither seem to be real big issues (that can't be reasonably resolved) as far as I can tell.

Just looking for your thoughts... TIA

Our '95 club cab (12V) has had NO problems, ever. Our '99 quad cab (24V) has had the VP44 fail 1,200 miles from home, in another country, the lift pump fail, Transmission and rear axle problems. The '95 just went on a 1,000 mle trip in place of the '99 because of issues with the '99.

Simplicity is the ultimate marvel of engineering.

I have been fortunate, my 02 has 71K miles on it, and the only issues I have had were a sensor in the transmission went bad at 60K, and the VP44 went at 70K, both were under warranty. It is a great truck, I average around 18mpg around town, and have gotten as high as 22mpg on the highway. Pulls like a champ, but is considerably noisier than the either of the old 12V'ers my Dad owned. You certainly can't argue with simplicity though.
