2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission I need a quick favor...

On starting this morning the tach did not work. When I drove into the garage I noticed the speedometer did not work or does it show that it is charging. The truck is a 1995 with 250k dependable miles. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just went thru that a couple of weeks ago. I had pulled out the instrument panel & some other dash stuff to chase down a rattle. Then only the fuel gage and oil pressure worked; everything else stayed "off". What finally worked was making sure that the 2 flat ribbon connectors in back of the panel cluster were SECURELY fastened into their sockets. I was about ready to buy a junkyard panel when I did this re-check. It is probably one or both of those connectors that are not as tight as they need to be.

Before you tear your dash apart check your crank position sensor also known as the engine speed sensor, you have the classic signs. When you turn the key on does the wait to start light come on? I bet it doesn't. The sensor is located in the front of the engine above the harmonic balancer. Unplug the sensor then turn the key on, if the wait to start light comes on, it is the sensor. If it does not then check connections. Then the engine control module.

I have been out of town and have had little time to work on the truck. I did turn the key on and the wait to start light did come on and cycle. I may have time tonight to check things out. Thanks
