How hard is it to remove the tailgate on a 4th gen?

How does the camera attached?

I have to pull my tailgate off when I use my hay trailer in the fields.

It is pretty easy on my 2005, but I can't get a good answer on the newer trucks.

Thanks,

D.

It is the same, but it seems heavier then my '01 and '07. I dont know about the camera, I think it unplugs under the tailgate, but not sure.

Tailgate removal is very simple on a 4th gen... on the edge of the box there is a rectangular plastic cover that the camera wiring runs into... squeeze a tab to remove the cover and unplug the wiring connector. The truck comes with a connector "plug" kit that plugs into the chassis wiring harness and replaces the plastic cover and the kit also has a plug for the tailgate connector to keep the pins from corroding. After that remove the tailgate like any other truck.

Agree,

The unplug part is the hardest thing about it because its in the crack. When I do it I lay two rag towels on top of the bumper (always use protection), pull the lower right part of the tailgate off its pin, then I unplug the rear camera. The cables, rags and left pin keep the tailgate from falling. Once its unplugged I release the cables and pick up the gate by pulling to the right (off the left lower pin) and place it in the garage.

If my wife is helping, I just hold the tailgate with her in the bed and and have her release the plug for the camera for me.
