Breakaway Switch leads melted together

My old '88 10. 5 ft S&S had a septic tank hanging down in the back that required that the tailgate be removed from the truck. My "new" '98 Coachmen is a 11. 5 ft basement model that is totally flat all the way to the rear with the drains off to the side. It isn't one of those new weight behemoths out there. Do any of you with a similar configuration of camper leave the tailgate on or do you still remove it? It just seems like a good idea to leave it on just to provide a little more support to the overhang. Other posts have not addressed this particular issue for a full sized bed, but have alluded to the tailgate having a lot of strength. I've not had a chance to experiment as the truck and camper are at the RV place getting a good going over to reseal everything as a preventive maintenance measure. Thanks to those of greater experience.

I would say if the gait doesn't cause any clearance troubles then leave it on cause it's a pain in the neck to remove every weekend for me to use my slide on and its SO heavy.
