I'll be needing new tires in the not too distant future.

I wouldn't mind finding a deal on alloy wheels/tires that are a take-off if I can find a bargain.

Keep in mind this is for a 2WD 2nd gen w/ drum rear brakes.

What options do I have?

H2 Wheels: Will the 315's fit on a 2WD without rubbing?

99-02 2nd gen alloys: Require the lip on the drum to be machined.

3rd gen 17" alloys: Are these a direct fit? Drum machining required? Rubbing?

The 17" 3rd generation wheels/tires seem like they might be the best option.

Thoughts?

Steve what stock wheels do you have now, chrome steel or painted steel with trim rings and center caps(ST model)?

I have a set of factory Alloy wheels and center caps,in perfect condition I'd trade fot the ST model steel wheels-painted,trim rings, center caps.

I was rotating tires on my 05 and decided to see what they looked like on my 98. 5. Bolted right up, but I didn't drive it as I only had time to put two on(I can't see any clearence issues- Steel chrome clad wheels). I'm currently thinking about some 3g take offs for it, or painting the steel wheel black with the chrome trim installed- What do you think?

I have the chrome steel - I was getting excited for a minute :( .

What alloys do you have? 2nd or 3rd gen?

With or without tires?

NDaniels

Thanks for taking the time to do that.

Even though machining the drums isn't that big of a deal, I just wanted to know if it would be required for the 3rd gens.

Anyone know if the 315/70/17 from the H2 will work on a 2WD?

My first thought is they'll rub.

Or, would it look stupid if they'd fit anyway?

My objective is to get alloy wheels w/ good tires for the same cost or even less than what new tires would cost. :)

They are 2nd gen alloys...

They dont have any rubber on them right now. Anyone who wants to trade them for a set of painted steel wheels with trim rings and caps let me know, I will send them to you so you can switch over your rubber and send me back your bare wheels.

Here's mine with '03 alloys. Direct fit, even the same lug nuts.

Here is my ride I paid $1000 for the wheels and tires brand new. The tires are 265/75-16 they are Yokohama Geplanders I have about 50,000 miles on em I got the wheels and tires at Discount Tire.

How much tread do you have left DPellegrin? I have thought about Geolanders before. Looks like you have the Moss Green truck, my '96 4x4 is Moss Green/Driftwood and I like the color.

BigPapa that would be Coco (the pom) and Toby (the black half pom), they love road trips :)

Probably about 30% My only gripe about the Geolanders is the fact that you have to rotate them about every 5000 miles or else they start cupping quite a bit.
