Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) TC solenoid???

I'm looking at a 1997 14 valve at a dealer and went to drive the truck and told me they need to fix something in the transmission. They say it's a solenoid? What does it control? Dealer says that it sometimes stalls when taking off. Can anyone give me more info on what this is? Im looking at this truck with intentions of going through it and converting it into a sled pulling truck. Im not to worried about this b/c down the road i plan on putting upgraded transmission and tc in it right away. Any info will help, Thanks Cole.

If the torque convertor is staying lockup, even when you are stopped or stoopping, it could stall the engine. Never had an issue with mine, even on the stock trans. I did have to replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid on my stock transmission. transmission was starting out in 2nd gear. Those cured it.
