T Baker,
In reference to the idle egt issue, the temp reductions might be a combination of the ported head and cam. I drove the truck for a very short time with the hx-35/16, then the hx-40/16 went on. The idle egt comparison was done with the hx-35. I figured I could make a better comparison with the old turbo still on.
Before the cam/head installation, idle egt after two minutes was always between 280-300 degrees. Now, at the same outside air temperature(80 degrees), it is between 225-250.
Idle cool down is noticeably quicker before shut down. This is again probably a combination of the cam/head. The fact the intake valves are opening 23 thousands more (oops, I think Piers said that was a secret, or was that DD?) for an unspecified amount of duration I'm sure has an effect on fuel burn/egt across the board. Later this week, I'll have a few hundred more miles on it to share more and hopefully better information.
One more thing, I don't have half as much of that beautiful dark black smoke as before(my son misses it!). Time to add more fuel!!
