im wondering how i can test to see if waste gate is stuck can i use shop air and ifso how do i go about test it because truck isnt making any boost.

Roland,

There are two ways to check the WG; one being having the turbo out of the truck and the other in. I did mine out.

You can use your shop air through a regulator and backfeed the turbo and watch the actuator move to 100% at your designated setpoint. This is easy while it is out of the truck.

The same process applies to a mounted turbo but adjustment is baised on outlet pressure not sight opening. You will need to monitor the blocked exaughst system as the pressure equilizes.

Hope this helps.

so i should push air thru the front of the turbo until it moves and what pressure should i set my regulator at. If the wastegate is stuck open how do i cure this problem

They way ive done it is to build a cap 4" PVC sewer cap with a schrader valve in the center. then use your boot to clamp this cap to the inlet on the turbo. Use an air hose to pressurize the sysytem. If your system will hold the pressure up to your waistgate setting you should see it open. This also works to check for boost leaks.

The other way is to remove the line from the turbo to the waistgate and put air to it and see what the WG does.

Both ways are pretty simple.

if the truck is not making any boost, wouldn't you suspect the WG stuck open? can you manually move the arm from the diaphram to the butterfly valve?
