I think that guy might have been yanking your chain. It seems odd that DC would go through the trouble of concealing the entire engine compartment, and make the hood where it could only be opened by computer and THEN advertise it having a MB engine on the hood??

I know for a fact that the new engine is a Cummins engine. I have a buddy that has been working on the project for months now. The details have been kept super secret and even he was not told exactly what it was he was working on. Before he learned the details, he had to sign papers to the effect that he would be terminated and possibly sued if he leaked details. They take it very seriously and I don't want to get him fired. . He won't tell me anything specific since he signed the papers and thats fine w/ me, but judging from what he has told me he has been working on recently, I'd say the new (or I should say improved  ) engine is ready to roll. . He does say that this engine should be very impressive. I told him that the internet crowd was saying it is a 6. 7. He didn't say one way or another for sure, but he implied that it is NOT a 6. 7. Time will tell.

I agree with your assessment that the guy was getting his chain yanked. If they're going to be driving around a truck with a test engine, they certainly aren't going to slap on a sticker that says "Powered by Mercedes Benz. " If it was a test truck with an MBE, I wouldn't be surprised if they put the Cummins emblem on it just so it blended in with the rest of the trucks on the road. Locking down the hood so it can be only opened with some computer activation code is completely bogus. What if an engine fire broke out?

I see plenty of people driving around their little passenger cars with those "Powered by Mercedes Benz" stickers because they work at one of the Freightliner plants and grabbed an emblem off the line... There's nothing stopping a guy from doing the same thing to his Dodge 1-ton.

sounds like a division of "Skunkworks"

Thats exactly what I told him. He said they are very serious and he takes his job very seriously so I didn't force the issue. . I guess they don't want to show their hand and give the competition that much more extra time to develope something that's just a bit more powerful, ect...

I know DC does some stupid things, but I bet they also know that the name Cummins (or is that cummings?) ;) sells a boatload of pickups. As to what size the new motor will be, who knows, we'll find out sooner or later. I would be willing to bet it will make Ford and GM cry for their mommy, especially when you oil heads start modding!!!
