Another happy member of the 30PSI Plus club

Zman is the man!

Turbo, you need to purchase a boost module to enjoy the extra boost.

Lower EGT's are on the way... ... .....

I am putting on a 4" exaust to keep down the egt. i don't need a big gain in power,so i am putting on a pe ez,why would i need the extra boost? won't the pe ez with the 4" keep me cool enough and give me a slight power increase without 'needing' to do anything else? thanx you guy's are a grreat help!!!

The PE Ez has a built in boost module. Did you install the elbow? If you did you will see increased boost pressure which will lower your EGT's #ad

You should also be looking into gauges

I'm no expert on boost and fueling, but I will tell you that before I disabled the wastegate on my HY, the truck seemed to crap out once the wastegate opened up at 20 psi. After I disabled the wastegate, the power just kept coming on until I achieved max fueling and boost. HUGE difference with the higher boost. Can't hurt to give it a try to see if you like it.

What happens with the spike in boost with a manual trans. when you shift? Doesn't the wastegate expire this spike of boost? From what I am told, this is hard on the turbo.

IMSWHO Your Boost falls off when shifting it doesn't spike. . The turbine side of the turbo is driven by heat caused by load on the engine... . therefore when you push in the clutch the boost falls even with your fueling foot on the floor...

With a automatic you might get a little rise in boost when the trans shifts as it keeps a fairly constant load on the engine... but in our low boost pressures (under 40psi) it should not be a problem.

I do remember MY6EATSV8's(I think?) twisting a turbo shaft into two pieces. He was producing over 50 psi with a stock turbo using a hot Pump, Injectors, Propane and nitros. . He gets over 600hp out of his "Undervalved" Cummins...

Hope I answered your question... Kwikkurt

Ask RAMHEAD3437
about an overheated turbo!! (If that's O. K JAmes?):O turned not only the housing completely gold but the intercooler as well. (He has an HX35 with the Bank's Big Head Actuator which Holds the Waste Gate Closed until Certain higher force overcomes the actuator which in my opinion Holds it closed Too Well!!) Quite honestly Call Banks and Get their 50 Cent "Hardline wastegate Modification insert kit" hey when I screwed it into the line I instantly saw 38 PSI!! Simple install and the wastegate still will bleed off Spikes above 40 #ad

Another simple way of doing it is using a spring, and some wire. Couple of twists, and your good to go..... need to remove it? Wire snips, and all done .....

StakeMan is the one that showed that one to me, I'll find his post here in a second, or when I get to work.

Eric, Ive even seen "low" spring rate Carb return springs to add resistance to the actuator to in a sence "Delay" it's opening... . Is that what you saw per say?

ZMAN..... Thanks for your reply.
I whipped up a turnbuckle in no time.

Yes thats the "idea", it just delays the opening of it rather then disabling, don't like the idea of disabling it. And I didn't jsut "see" it, I used it... . I took my truck in for some warrenty work and one snip with wire cutters and it was off, I love the simplicty of it. I'm looking for Stakemans's post as we speak (i'm at work might take a bit tho).

I take it this is only going to work on 2001 trucks. With my PM3 do you think i could figure out something like this for my 99?

(Silver Bullet)1999 Ext Cab 4X4 5SPD, All options. Power Max 3(adjustable), K&N Filter, no muffler, Pyro,Fender Flares, Toolbox, bedrail covers, 450 watt Kenwood Sub, 33 12. 50 16. 5's, 3. 54's... Soon to have: 4inch, DDIII's, Southbend clutch.

MHindman -

Your fix will require the use of a boost elbow and either a stand alone boost module or one that is built into a fueling/timing box. I'm pretty sure that the PM3 has the boost module built in. You should be able to get a boost elbow from TST (or just about anyone who makes/sells fueling boxes.

Steve

Will this only work with a performance box or can I use it on my, dare I say, stock motor? I'm still leary of bombing a $37k truck and loosing my warranty.

I think the use of the spring or the turn buckle will work on any wastegate that you can hook it to. As long as there is place to atach them to they should work. I have been using the wire and spring method for about 10k miles with not problems. I have it set to open at 28 psi. I agree with KatDiesel about not locking it down.

I used the heavy spring from a rear drum barke set. Bend one of the loops backwards into a hook. Hook that end on the lever arm coming from the wastegate head. Use a piece of solid wire ( I used cow tie wire) and run it through the other loop and put a couple of twists in it. Use pliars to tighten it up. You may may a pry bar to get enough leverage. You can ask KatDiesel about that ;-).
