Background image makes it hard to focus and read

Keep the reports coming, I'll try to address all issues. It looks like some like the site having a background image, others don't. I'll see if there's a way to make this a user option.

I'll try to duplicate the one word/one line issue. Do you know the screen size of the device?

I'm in the no background camp, prefer to cover as many messages in the least amount of space. Not sure if it is something that can be toggled on/off.

If you resize your browser screen down until the background image disappears and is replaced with grey, would something like that work better all the time? YES! It so it could be an option I bring to Robin's attention.

The disjointed look of the background between posts is very distracting. The in your face bold borders may work ok on small screens (though I didn't like it on the ipad either) but it is mickey mouse looking on a desktop. Are there user settings that can be experimented with?

An issue with this type of messy background format is stand alone text displayed over the background picture. For an example of this: when posting via the advanced method you have many replies shown and at the bottom of the replies is the text "This thread has more than 15 replies. Click here to review the whole thread." The black text is all but unreadable unless you highlight it or scroll until the text is over the grey guardrail in the background. With all the useless doodads and links cluttering the screen now the effort should be towards less confusing and less cluttered display not the opposite as this skin is!

While there is nothing wrong with TDR admin wanting, and even needing, to reach more, newer members using mobile devices, I have to agree that the non moving background image IS distracting while scrolling…won't keep me from TDR, but it would be nice if there was a solution.

For me with that Ram in the background and the gaps between posts it makes my eyeballs spin. At 62 I am trying to focus on the posts and while scrolling to much is changing so it is very distracting.

It's not your age, you've got nearly 20 years on me and I feel the same way. It's way too "busy"...

My memory might be off but I do remember the activity on TDR falling off when the last major update was done. I'd hate to think that people would give up on TDR because of some format and color changes, but then again.......

I'll just have to focus a little more because I've had enough of the forum "B" drama to last me a lifetime.

I guess my bottom line is that the TDR "Guys" helped me make EXCELLENT, Educated decisions on the two NEW dodge trucks that I bought (2001.5 and my 2007, 5.9 built the last two weeks of 2006 and has the 6.7, G56). I come to the site for information and to help others like how I was helped in my early days as a Cummins powered Dodge owner. I GLADLY pay my membership to belong to a group of men and women who know what they are talking about when giving information or instruction. I don't come here for all the fancy background or confusing format to keep me here. The helping members on the forums and the well formatted magazine is what keeps me here. I support the administration here and I try to buy from the vendors that advertise and contribute here.
PS...Can you darken the print on the posts?

It is a droid turbo. Not the largest of phones but not the smallest either.*

Wayne's post shows up the same way as I described last night, yet others posts are showing up normal.*

Wayne and JHawes, did you post from a PC or a smart phone? I wonder if there is a correlation there.*

I don't like changes, but time does march on. The background messes with my equilibrium, and thats very distracting. My iphone 5 does not seem to like it, I gave up on it, until I could get to my Macbook. Its a little more understandable now, but when I went back to look at it on my iphone its still difficult. The necessity of having to scroll down through the menu and notice of the new format threw me off. Now that I know I have to scroll down to the posts or whatever option I chose is bothersome. I hope TDR can fix that, I want to see the option pop up at the top from what I chose, from the menu regardless of what I chose to and the menu at the bottom. See, I'm already confused.

My 2 cents... way too busy... and I have to agree, the red is a bit much.
Another forum I frequent gave up on Vbulletin for the same reasons you're trying to fix.
They went to ZenForo
No idea of the cost but Adventure Rider (advrider.com) has over 3,000 members and guests on line at anytime. The same people also run Smugmug and Digital Grin.

My 2 cents... I actually really like it. Change is usually unpopular at first, but after a little time, most people adjust to a change and drive on.

However, a couple of tweaks to consider...
The Red color is a bit harsh. Can I change the theme?
As some have mentioned, the text is light and not enough contrast makes it difficult to read.

Have you considered Tapatalk or some other format made for smartphones?

Found another glitch. I tried to quote something in the 4th gen section. I then tried to make a highlight section of a sentence and make it bold in that quote. It kicks me to the bottom of the page. When I scroll back to the quote, everything is highlighted, but it won't let me highlight anything specific. Just kicks me to the bottom.

I really don't like the gaps in between posts. Very hard to read - esp with the bright red.

There will be a few weird/odd looking color transitions over the next hour as I copy color values over from my test install to the live one, to resolve some of the issues.

IMHO this update is bad enough that it will effect usage.
