5-speed bearing noise?

So here are the problems with my new 91 (in sig). Speedo not working, no dash lights, fuel gauge haywire, cig lighter not working, cargo light not working, power brakes not working, need a Borgeson shaft bad and PS is leaking pretty bad. It has 4. 88 gears and 37" tires, top speed is about 80, sound right? Also turbo is only getting about 18psi when I hammer on it. I know factory says they're supposed to run 22-25 but it's got a 16cm housing on it. EGTs are great for a non-IC truck though. Any ideas? I'm not all that great at troubleshooting especially when it comes to wiring. I haven't checked the fuses yet though since I'm so worn out from driving 8 hours yesterday and 13 today trying to get it home by tomorrow night.

Speedo issue could be the VSS on the back on the transfer case, but its also possibly a ground issue, along with your dash lights, fuel gauge, and maybe even cig lighter outlet. Cargo light may also be a bad ground. Does the dome light work?

The top seal on the PS gear tends to blow out sometimes, especially if you're running bigger tires.

My truck does just over 80 with no o/d (vss issue, won't go into o/d), and I have 3. 55s and standard size tires (33s?). I have the 3200 gov spring though. With the stock 2700 spring it wouldn't do much over 72-73... downhill... with the wind behind you. You could do the math on the tires size vs. axel ratio and figure out if you're in the ballpark, but thats more thinking than I care to do right now...

18 seems a little low, especially the non-ic trucks should show slightly higher psi due to the hotter intake air temps raising the pressure. Your blades on the turbo may be wearing out on the leading edges, or you may have a slight leak somewhere in the plumbing (which there ain't much of on the non-ics). The smaller housing should also up psi. Stock, these trucks came with anywhere between 18cm and 21cm, I believe, so yours is slightly smaller yet.

OK the dash lights and cig lighter are working now... finally checked the fuses and found a couple blown. I know there is a TSB out on the fuel gauge I just need to find it. Well I turned my smoke screw one turn today and now I'm hitting about 21 psi really quickly so I'm happy with that now. Just the wiring and the damn steering shaft is killing me. Also found out it had a Bully Dog power pin in it when I took the pump top off to rotate the pin.

Yeah, those stock couplers on the steering shafts fall into my "I love Dodge, but... " category. The Borgeson unit is definitely the way to go... especially when you have to pull your steering gear out 8 times in 2 years because the parts house steering gears are junk... . that telescoping shaft comes in reeeeal handy.

Anybody have the part number for the steering gear input shaft seal kit? I'm pretty sure Somebody on one of the forums gave it to me but amongst the fun I was having on leave #@$%! I neglected to write it down and now I'm trying to order it so I can do it the weekend I get home. Some people spend Thanksgiving with their families, I spend it wrenching on my truck. :-laf

I picked up an input shaft seal kit from Advance Auto, they ordered it and I had it the next day. The replacement was identical (had the same numbers) to the one I took out. I think it was about $9. 00.

Also, I replaced my steering shaft with a Borgeson, it is the only way to go. I learned about it when I replaced the coupler on my '79 Power Wagon many years ago. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Yeah it's got a Borgeson in it already thankfully. That was going to be my first mod what with the lift and all. It's not the off-road one but it will do for now.

I beat the hell out of my truck and I have the standard borgeson unit with the rag joint. Never had any trouble there. I like the idea of having the bolts running parallel to the shaft at one end like that. That set screw that holds the u-joint on to the steering gear tends to loosen itself up over time if you don't check it once in a while. I'd hate to have those at both ends... you'd risk dropping the steering shaft out of the truck.
