Have you noticed how your non-truck owning friends and relatives just automatically assume that you will gladly give up your weekend time to help them move, haul landscaping materials, etc. for free? They never offer to pay for the fuel or your time. I got so sick of this that I let it be known amongst my friends and family members that I did not buy this truck to run a free hauling business!
Just thought I'd see how y'all feel about this.
Andy

Don't have that problem, all my relatives have their own trucks--majority of friends also.

Bob, get the transmission pan installed yet?

Andy,
I can sort of relate. . when I graduated electrical engineering school, all my relatives and friends assumed I knew how to fix VCRs and program satellite chips and what not. As a matter of fact, some of them still ask me to program their satellites so they can get free HBO or porn or something!

I tell them to call U-Haul or Ryder, get the chepest them take off 10% and I'll do it. I tell them the payment amount, the cost of oil and filter change and responsibility of their stuff and usually they change their minds. If not I make a little spending money, that I don't mind.

It was either Dear Abby or Ann Landers who said "No one can take advantage of you without your permission. "
One time I helped a friend and his mother by loading up a bunch of their yard sale stuff and bringing it to my house (I lived on a busy street, perfect for selling stuff). As my friend threw a bike in the bed (my '79 F250), the handlbars hung over the side of the bed and put a nice big scratch in the paint on the outer side of the bed. When I pointed it out to him, he said something like "Well, it's a truck, you know. " Then his brother, sister in law, and grandmother came over to my house, and he and his brother took off to go to the beach, leaving me to entertain his sister in law and grandmother. In the afternoon, we loaded the truck again (I was the only man there, so guess who did all the heavy lifting) and took everything back to his mother's house, and of course, unloaded it. She had an old army ammo box that no one bought, and I said I wouldn't mind having it. So she charged me a dollar for it! Even after spending my whole Saturday helping them, I never even got so much as a thank you!
I have never felt like such a fool, allowing myself to be taken advantage of like that. I don't mind helping out, but this was way beyond helping! That day has always remained in my mind when someone wants me to help them with my truck, and instantly my defenses go up.
Otherwise, like you said, Bob, I guess I'm kind of laid back.
Andy

Andy, I know what ya mean. Trailers, too!

I have to agree with Bob on this one, though, I have never seen you anything but laid back and friendly!

Hale on Wheels... send me one of those re-programmed chips for the satellite!

No problem at all! You could bet that if I did not have a comeback, my dually and flatbed gooseneck would be in big demand. With driver/grunt, for free of course.

I just invite the person asking for a favor to come on over. Help me get my nine horses squared away then we can go move whatever.

I dunno', the smell does not bother me?

I keep mine hidden in the garage when I'm not driving it so nobody knows about it. In case that doesn't work, I stay on bad terms with my relatives to keep them away. #ad

I can relate all to well to this, as just yesterday I had to tow my girlfriend's sister's car home because it died and I had a truck. What pi$$es me off even more is that I found out they have road service. Ugh!

No please let me help I have nothing else to do. Yeah right!

Rob,

I know what you mean... . My brother's new hood/fender assembly for his Freightliner is setting on my 16' tag along flat bed trailer right now!! At least he used his tiedown straps instead of asking to use mine.

What are brothers for?? #ad

Bill

I know where you guys are cummin from. When I got this truck I told myself that I would help anyone move ever again. This Sunday I'm picking up my cousins bedroom set and taking it to his apartment. OK, only one last time, yeah right.

Eric

Your right Andy,
Kind of off topic but saw this license plate frame tonight:

Friends help you move,

Real Friends help you move bodies.

Happy Rammin,
Caleb

Yep been there done a lot of that. They all have trucks too(fords). But who do they call. ME. Yes they must fill up the tank. Also buy my dinner all you can too. I find not being home and not ansering the phone helps a little. I'll never give them my cell phone number.

Ya aint it the truth,I also used to own an old freight box type truck,it had an electric lift gate on it ,My phone rang off the wall,I bet I moved more stuff than most #ad
finally sold the truck just to get away from that now I am #ad
