Are there low pressure TPIS warnings on a 3500?

Hello all,

So my 2015 2500 Cummins Turbo actuator went out resulting in a $3800 repair bill from our local stealerhip.
The truck is still under the power train warranty but the dealer said that this repair was not covered under the warranty. The Turbo housing IS covered, but not the actuator that is bolted to the Turbo and, last time I checked , is required by the Turbo to actually work. No amount of argument/reasoning/ plea for common sense with the dealer or FCA (non) customer service would peruade them to even help with the bill at all. No discount, nothing.
The turbo actutator part is one of the simplest looking , non complicated things I have ever seen. Price is $$3200 ! THEFT.

No warranty coverage of a part that is CLEARLY part of the power train.....THEFT.

FCA is a joke. Poor cutomer service. Poor design of Cummins Turbo. Junk.

Very expensive truck with poor quality parts and design.

Last one for me.

I hope this rant made you feel better about your junk Cummins.

FYI, Genos now sells the electronic portion of the actuator...the portion that usually fails, for about $900. The nice thing is that since you aren't replacing the entire actuator, it requires no calibration once installed.

Is that usually what goes on the actuator, the electronic portion ?? Seems to be a common occurrence , and expensive at that .

I just bought one for $300. Genuine Cummins reman.

Sometimes research pays off before you open your pocket book.

This was posted by another member. Again, it showed up in a Cummins box so is about as authentic as it gets.

I see some of these reman's are plug ,and play, so I am curious does that mean they are calibrated ?? I don't see the plug ,and play mentioned on the one you referenced . The other ones I looked at were not too much more in cost, but they were plug ,and play.

If they claim plug and play it’s because you separate the electronic portion from the mechanical . You leave the gear housing installed on the turbo while changing the wiring and circuit board.

It appears JR is referencing the electronic part, its called an actuator kit, so although I did not see plug ,and play , I would guess it is, and requires no calibration ??? Just trying to understand these turbo, and actuator issues, if a problem happens.

****Corrected****

See Sag2 information below for your truck...

looks like a 5yr/50k item. Page 21 of the base warranty book, but as he suggests run your specific truck.

With the number of issues I have read about on that part doubt its covered under normal powertrain..

Little different format then the 2017 post but very similar items.

I have run the coverage for several members. If you post the last 8 and mileage it gives you coverage specific to your truck.

They all require calibration prior to installing the new actuator on the turbo. I'm doing mine with Alpha OBD app. There is no actuator I'm aware of that you are able to install without first syncing to the vehicle.

Try looking in your Genos catalog.

Check your State smog laws, it should be included in the smog laws.

According to this thread you should still be covered under the emissions warranty?

Not all States have the same laws, as it varies from State to State.

Recomend you go to Mopar.com, create an account, type in your VIN, and download the specific info on your truck.

Easy peasy.

Try looking in your Genos catalog.

Are you referring to the half shell?

I haven't looked into it any further than the price. Literally half the component for three times the price.

If you replace the entire actuator assembly I'm pretty certain it must be calibrated.

JR, the electronics is what goes bad on the actuator. The mechanicals are what needs calibration, and if not removed, is good.

You can replace the whole turbo, the whole actuator, or the the part that's bad. It's all about choices and confidence. I trust Genos 100% after 20 years of OUTSTANDING support.

EDIT: If you replace the entire actuator, you do need to calibrate, easily done with AlphaOBD, as documented here on the website.

If I was on my dime, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Cheers, Ron
