My BD-Power X-Monitor has had faulty and usually no reading for months, not giving me EGT readouts. Since my X-Monitor is out of warranty, they won't replace it and it will cost over $50 to have a replacement shipped to me. I was wondering if there is a more durable K style thermocouple that i can use.

I understand that the leads have to be a certain length for proper calibration, unless someone knows, i can call BD again to find out what length that is. Is it true that a smaller diameter will have better response? I will be installing in the exhaust manifold. Is there a brand considered more durable than others? I plan to use a GM style weatherpack connection. Any suggestions?

Here's some general comments about thermocouples:
-Length of leads doesn't matter, unless you're concerned about 1. 5 degrees off.
-Type K TCs have a yellow and a red lead. If that's what your gauge takes, that's what you need. Most are.
-Small diameter will respond quicker but larger diameter will last longer.
-Be careful about non TC connections; dissimilar metals will change the mV and calibration.
-$50 doesn't sound bad for a TC made to go with your gauge.

Good luck, John
