2001 jeep wrangler automatic - help

Expedition help!

Big trucks are allowed 75 miles if run out of DEF by the programming before derating.

They will not simply quit running.

The DEF has increased fuel mileage on trucks and has been fairly trouble free. As a matter of fact far less troublesome than the 08-10 trucks as a whole.

I am not afraid of DEF, I would not hesitate to purchase any Diesel that requires it.

Thanks!

How much does it typically cost?

I googled "urea" and nothing seemed to be relevant to diesels.

I also searched wally world unsuccessfully.

I got the salesman to go to 10. 3K on the van, but were still $700 apart on price.

Maybe I shouldnt be so tough on him. He took 2300 off the sticker. Most are taking 100-200 or nothing... then "adjusting the price for the market"#@$%! Which means theyre gouging everyone on the price because of the fuel prices going up. #@$%!#@$%!

The 2 1/2 Gallon jug of Terra Cair DEF we stock sells for $10. 20.

It is reasonably priced.

Also comes with a pour spout tucked in the back of the jug.

That TDI won't drink it up like a 15 Litre Diesel would either.

Mike.

It's a lot cheaper than throwing away 12 quarts of oil in you Ram every 3-4000 miles which is contaminated with soot from the EGR and fuel from the constant regeneration of the NOX adsorber catalyst.

I got a 12 valve. :p So thankfully, that's all greek to me.

Thanks mwilson, that's a LOT cheaper than I'd think something like that costing. :D

I have a 02 Jetta, changed the belt and water pump at 90,000 other

then that have done nothing to it.

I also bought a VAG-COM program to work on it myself.

Went to another dealer yesterday afternoon.

Some of these guys would rather sit on these cars for another month than to deal with you a little on price.

I told them "sell them, they'll make more". Apparently the tennessee plant was hit by hail and some 1000+ new VW's were damaged. Including 200 new TDI's. :{

Oh well, we'll see what happens today. It's the end of the month and who knows, maybe I'll get a call.

Mossy VW in San Diego cornered the market here and bought up 30 TDI 6-speed Jettas. They're advertising them @ $22,995. I don't know if that's a good deal or not.

My dealer buddy passed on them because in the Carlsbad area, everybody wants autos.

No they dont have to entice them.

But I have an 800+ credit score, I'm NOT paying 5+% on anything!#@$%!

If it comes down to it, they can keep it.

The fact that they can 1. 9% the exact car with a different engine in it is completely asinine IMO. But it's their car and they can do whatever they want.

I may just put it on a credit card and cut out their skimmed % & put it in THEIR shorts!! Ha ha.

It's amazing to me that a dealer will let you walk out the door over just a few dollars.

Happened to me when trying to buy a VW diesel many years ago. Was down to the last bit of haggling, but the dealer wouldn't throw in the block heater cord. I walked, and have never really gotten close to buying a Volkswagen again. (Which is sort of a shame, as the Mrs. does drive a standard transmission, and it would be fun to own one again. )

I think that VW dealers as a rule are fairly independent- it's their way or the highway. If you don't buy the car, someone will come along tomorrow who will. When I bought my '89, VW had just re-introduced the diesel after a three year absence. IIRC, the price was the price, take it or leave it.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have kept that car, but I don't think its 52 HP would fare too well against 400 HP pickups and the 556 HP Cadillac while vying for its space in traffic.

I was curious about a VW Golf TDI several months ago and stopped by a local dealer in Lubbock and drove one. I liked the car and the salesman, my age, talked me into going inside with him. I went along with the game and he tried very hard to get me to make an offer. I declined several times but finally decided to give him a lowball. The MSRP on the Golf TDR six speed 2 dr hatchback was $25,000 exactly so I told him, "I might be interested at $23,500" which I figured was very close to invoice on the car. To my amazement, his sales manager came back at $23,700 and before I walked, came at me again with $23,500. I still walked although I liked the car and would enjoy owning one.

When I got home I looked the MSRP and invoice up on NADA or KBB, don't remember which now, and $23,500 was at or very close to invoice. This was before Christmas and sales were obviously pretty slow.

That was surprising for a Lubbock dealer. I normally don't buy cars or trucks in Lubbock because they won't sell for a price I'm willing to pay.

I wouldnt walk over that small an amount. It's like the financing % and $700 were apart. I'd give in on the 700 but wont pay 5. 9%. No way.

Might do the credit card cash advance thing, might just say skrew it. I dunno. I really didnt like the way the salesman was eyeing my wife up & down either... ...

One of the dealers just called back. He dropped 500 on the car and my wife talked him into giving us 11K for the chrysler. His financing % was right about what I'd expect.

I think I'll be in a TDI Passat this time tomorrow. Oo. Oo.

As a side note, the local gas station is installing diesel pumps. It's a sigh. :-laf

I'm happy. I wanted a TDI for over 10 years!!!Oo. Oo.

Excellent!

You know we will need pics right? :D

Thanks Jim. Guess I'll be joining.

It's the 6speed auto. It's the wife's car. She can drive a stick, but she prefers the auto.

Bill, I'll see what I can do with pics. It's white with black interior. I got the one with the 18" wheels. :D

Will you can still drive the car like a 6 speed manual transmission. The DSG has Drive, Sport and the ability to shift it manually. This drives my wife nuts when I used the manual mode of the transmission. I like it and use this quite often in city traffic. I can down shift the car and the transmission along with the engine will allow some braking without the use of the wheel brakes.

On the Passt the DSG in the auto mode will disengage going into neutral when you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal. Some drivers of the 2012 Passat who have driven the older DSG models have complain about this feature. VW claims that this feature was added to the Passat DSG transmission to help save some fuel usage and improve the overall mileage on the Passat.
