Has ANYONE else out there had trouble with the headlights on their trucks??

I'm scheduled to bring my truck BACK to the dealer for the third SET of them!!!

They ALWAYS go the same way...

I'll be outside washing the truck. . and I'll notice that water is on the INSIDE of the passenger side headlight. .

Within a week the driver's side will be in the same condition!

The dealer says that there is a problem with D. C. 's source for the lights. . and the seals that hold the clear glass front to the back breaks letting in the water!!

Well. . its good that the warranty covers this... but after 3 sets. . give me a break...

The dealer was at first reluctant to replace them under warranty. . saying if a rock breaks the light, it's not covered. .

This isn't the issue... it's just a defective bonding process... after reviewing the headlights for "Pings" from rocks, the dealer agreed.

If no one else out there has had this problem. . than this has got to be either an AWSOME coincidence that I get all the bad ones. . or something on my truck is applying pressure to the casing in just the proper place to snap the seal...

Either way, I am getting sick of going back for new lights... and I'm sure the service manager is getting sick of doing this work!

Maybe you could get the dealer to put in the sport lites-some sheetmetal timming is required. That might solve it- a totally different setup.

Thats the part I meant... . the Lenses... . sorry if I confused anyone...

This will be My third SET of Lenses... .

No B. S. Third Set in 24,000 miles!!!!!

No rocks. . just broken seals. . !!!

Does anyone out there think I have recourse for getting the "SPORT" version since my truck is eating up the regular ones at a pretty fast rate??

Thanks

I'm not sure but I would bet that the sport lights are made by the same company that makes the regular light. Might have the same problem. I have the sport and so far no problems with them. Also if you put in the sport lights they have to do some sheet metal work because they are a little bigger. Has your dealer seen a lot of this?
Is there a TSB? or a secret TSB? I'd pressure someone to get me an answer.

It was stated in the latest issue of the TDR (issue 25) that the '99 Sport headlights will fit in a "standard" '99 Ram without sheet metal modifications. The '98 Sports will require careful removal of excess sheet metal. A SPECIAL Brite-Box (sold through Geno's Garage) is required for the '98 conversion, as the '99 lights are switched negative (I believe) and the '98s are switched positive (either that or it's the other way around... I'm at work right now so I'm unable to double check that).

Just a comment, if the bulbs are touched with the fingers, the oils will shorten the life of the bulb on the regular lights. If the bulbs are going out, could be the "lot boy" is installing the bulbs and is unaware of this problem. Of course if the lenses are leaking the bulb life would also be shortened.
